The latest mock from Bleacher Report. I can only imagine what this place would be like if the Pistons went this route with who was still available:

And the latest mock from CBS Sports:

I'd be slightly disappointed if they took William's with Okoro available, but I don't think he will be available anyway.
Pat Williams would be a nice consolation prize, hes bigger and younger so he can be a poor mans Lebron when hes fully developed.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I was more referencing passing on Killian Hayes in favor of Williams. I actually think Williams is a really interesting prospect, but I think reconciling the Pistons taking him over Hayes would require a pretty big leap of faith in Weaver for most fans (including this one).

You rather stand pat at the 7 and take Killian/Haliburton OR take the Boston deal and get a combo of these 3:
RJ Hampton/Tyrese Maxey/Tyrell Terry/Aleksej Pokusevski/Kira Lewis
More swings at a home-run. If i'm Weaver, I try to get Robert Williams thrown into the deal somehow.
Decent youth movement, especially when you look a few years ahead...add in our 2021 1st + whatever assets we squeeze out of Blake/Rose + the inevitable 2022 Emoni Bates gift:
Wood/Williams
Sekou/Poku
Emoni
Kennard/Maxey
RJ Hampton/Bruce
Detroit is back baby. Pull the trigger, Troy!

Patrick Willuams has nice potential but just a bit raw. Pistons pass on a guy like Hayes though and they could have another Donovan Mitchell situation on their hands with the fanbase if he works out.

1 of them at 14 is obvious. The rest are likely gone before you're on the clock again.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
I've taken a step back from the pre-draft stuff this year so I'm not familiar with too many of the names being floated. So what are the opinions on the point guard prospects? Are they actually good enough to feel confident picking or do people just like them because they are point guards and the Pistons need one?

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
i think my list now is:
1. Okoro
2. Ball (if he falls, the talent is too good to pass on)
3. Hayes
4. Vassell
5. Williams - i took a step back on Williams because of his turnovers and lack of a handle. But his athleticism and hustle is great. Plus we've already got pretty much the same player in Sekou.

Troy Weaver says, “Everything is on the table” with the NBA draft:
https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2020/11/05/detroit-pistons-troy-weaver-everythings-table-nba-draft/6172796002/
And beyond their first pick, it sounds like the Pistons are going to get back into the 2nd round at a minimum.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
I recommend watching Troy Weaver’s press conference from today if you get a chance. He’s pretty candid without giving anything away. The video is imbedded in the article:
https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2020/11/05/detroit-pistons-nba-draft-trade-troy-weaver/6179346002/
A few of my takeaways from his press conference:
1. His top tier in this draft is 2 players deep (as opposed to the “Big 3” that most draftniks have), with his next tier seemingly being about 10 players deep. Perhaps he has a couple of sub tiers within that 10, but he didn’t indicate that. Obviously didn’t say who his top 2 are, but I’m assuming Ball and Edwards.
2. Still thinks that beyond the top 3 picks, the rest of the top 10 will be a “scramble”. And he even stated that there probably isn’t a consensus on the top 3.
3. Most mock drafts have Deni Avdija going in the top 5, and Weaver seemed to indicate that’s where the Pistons have him projected to go as well.
4. Weaver was asked about his thoughts on Hampton and Hayes. He called both “intriguing” prospects, but that they’re different, specifically citing RJ’s athleticism and upside and Hayes as a facilitator. He said that there collective range is “somewhere between 4 and 14”.

That take on it makes sense to me. Certainly it's statistically probable that at least one player in this draft will go on to be a star player. Superstar? Not likely; NBA superstars by and large looked the part before they ever hit the NBA. That player is NOT in this draft. Ball and Edwards are a logical 1/2 but they are not the next Jordan/Lebron. I'd be willing to label his tiers as "Could be a star player in the NBA" followed by "Could have a good career in the NBA" followed by "Who knows?" Point being there shouldn't be any rush to move up in the draft--because it's going to cost something--at this point in the Pistons rebuilding timeline and with what's available in this draft.

More buzz about Patrick Williams to the Pistons at 7 (from the LA Times):
https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2020-11-06/nba-mock-draft-questions-surround-warriors-and-lamelo-ball?_amp=true&__twitter_impression=true
Wonder if they really have made him a promise? If they take him, I’d bet they try to get into the back half of the 1st to get a PG.

I don't see it with Williams what real ball skills does he have? He's just bid and athletic.

William's isn't even better then his teammate Vassell so not sure why they would be targeting him first.

i’m really coming around on williams, dude has kawhi-lite potential. he’s explosive and can guard almost anybody in today’s nba. the shot isn’t that smooth looking, but he gets good arch on it with pretty good touch.
luke, bruce, williams, sekou, and (hopefully) wood would actually be a pretty exciting young core to work with.

I actually am coming around in Williams as well.
Watching scouting videos I was looking to count him out but actually came away pretty impressed.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
Is it fair to say that the most likely prospects Detroit could draft at 7 are Haliburton, Hayes, or apparently Williams? There doesn't seem to be much talk about Okoro, Vassell, or Okongwu although that doesn't mean much with a new front office in place. Ball Edwards, Wiseman, Avdija, and Toppin seem to be out-of-reach.
After just getting into draft stuff there seems to be a fairly clear tier of the top 11. Not too sure about the tiers within that top 11 but to be honest I think I'll be fairly content with any of them. Just get talent.
