Why can't we have nice things. Beasley looked like a sure fire solid starting SG for us. Now we might be forced to give up on him.

I don't think we should give up on him. I would let this play out in the court and not in the newpaper/chat room thread. Yes, he was probably in the wrong but he is also a young adult with a lot of money he really didn't "earn". I am sure many of us would of done stupid things had we been in his position or at least I know I would of. The Weed thing shouldn't bother anyone and if it does you need to look around because it's 2020. Now the gun thing is a problem but again very young kid whos friends/wife probably gassed him up. Give it time this really isn't that serious of an offense IMO.

This is ridiculous.

He's not 15 nor did he egg someone's house. He's an adult who threatened others with a weapon. That is incredibly serious.

It doesn't mean you give up on him but you don't hand wave something like that away either.

Lol! True. And I think we’d be willing to pay Richardson with the Bird rights, he’d probably be too expensive for the Sixers. JR is a better player, especially defensively, but Beasley’s offense and longterm, cost-controlled contract would be more appealing to the Sixers. I hope they’d be willing to wait.

Not sure I said he should get a pass???? I am just saying we should still let this play out in court not in the newspaper/social media. I get that it doesn't look good right now and it is a serious offense to pull a gun of someone. But I have seen plenty of athletes get a pass for worse. So we shouldn't just give up on him like the OP suggested.

I'm the OP and I didn't suggest completely giving up on him yet. I suggested this is trending in a direction where we will end up with really no choice.

We finally get a SG who has the potential to be the best SG we have ever had and this crap happens. This is so absolutely wolves. I hope to God the Kid stuff isn't real. WTF man, talk about blowing a career up. If he treats his kid fine and the charges aren't that severe Beasly has to clean everything up, everything has been jeopardized.

This might push the wolves towards Anthony Edwards now too. Bleh, what a mess.

In a way it may end up a being blessing that he pulled this bonehead move now rather than later after signing a more lucrative contract ... the legal system will take its course and we'll no more at a later date.

Up front - this is a good wakeup call for the FO ... if you're wanna build a quality culture this shows you can't be careful enough evaluating player character - gotta keep the trash out or you will always have a smell. I hope it ends better than it appears for Beas, but if these actions are true, I'd buy his ticket - take him to the airport - make sure he boards a flight to wherever land.

They probably vetted him and maybe knew of some issues but you also have to be willing to roll the dice a bit when you can get a talented, driven prospect. We don't have the luxury of attracting ready-made stars. This is an absolute disaster that often never happens. OF course us being the wolves, it did blow up.

If his child hasn't been mistreated, and it's just the gun/weed stuff that he gets hit with, he still could have a chance. He absolutely can turn it around and all of these things are fixable though he will need to put in some serious work to change the environment/choices he has made. If the more severe issues prove out, he's done. He may even be out of the league. this is a colossal eff up, especially because it was extremely avoidable on multiple fronts.

They likely pulled most of this evidence off his own security cameras, so he's pretty cooked on that.
It's going to be a matter of how much mercy he gets from the courts, and that is often tied to how much change and growth he can show the court. It might be in his best interest to get treatment and counseling.

Even in the current environment where drug laws are getting more liberal (several more states just legalized pot), enforcement on gun and child issues have been headed in the opposite direction.

I really hope he gets his head on straight and gets his girlfriend on board because this kind of stuff can quickly torpedo not only his career but his life.
Pro basketball is a cruel business and so many careers are so short and the money runs out really quick with no college degree to fall back on for many.

I see him signing the qualifying offer and trying to redeem his value in the summer as the most likely scenario.
Any salary-matching sign and trades are pretty far fetched at this point.
And once he signs his QO we need his permission to trade him as he will be giving up his bird rights if he is traded.
