Celts have been in on Precious all along per my post on here about a month ago. However, I get a feeling it's more of a smokescreen.

I live near by where VC played HS ball. watched him since his freshman year. He always came across as a BIG BOY who just toyed with little HS kids. But he always had the worst body language. His family (younger brother-mother are some BIG BONE people. Couldn't tell how much VC was fat and out of shape or just big boned.

Him being in great shape for the first time is good for him. But I do wonder how long he could maintain it. He did so some crazy skills (spin moves dribbling and shooting) in HS, but I imagine Duke wouldn't let him get loose like that.

I not not ready to say where amongst the other Bigs I would want him.. but am interested.

*On a side note, his much heralded teammate in HS, Scottie Barnes, also had the laziest Body language with a funky azz jumpshot. Hopefully he wakes his azz up as well.

Modern day big who can legitimately switch 1-5, freak athlete, and just a rim runner on offense. I'm really just hoping Ainge can find a trade partner to package 26 and 30 to move up since I actually like the guys there at 14.

I mean it's honestly possible you could get Precious at 14 and then get Cole Anthony at 22 if he slides that far. Or maybe Tyrell Terry or Josh Green? Who knows but the point is there should still be another good player in the early 20s available.

I am just very against taking Nesmith, Bolmaro, and Tyler Bey lol. Want nothing to do with them on this team.

Minority on Precious!! Hell No!!

For the record, to those who are against Precious, I feel are over-looking his number 1 attribute, And that is he is by far the most "switch-able" center available (with OO) each prospect has imperfections and needs to learn a lot. But he can come in day one and be a valuable defensive /rebounding force IMO. IF he gets a spot up jumper (based on mechanics) I believe he will get one. He will be a very complete player and can grown nicely with Tatum/Brown/Smart.

exactly! He is the most switchy big of them all. Can guard like crazy and has potential to develop as a modern day stretch big. He could step right in on day 1 and add tons of energy and hustle which would impact the game in a positive way

Want to keep beating this drum but our team's number one identity should be our ability to switch on defense. Let's make that even stronger. especially after seen the disaster of having weak non switch able players last playoffs

Who are the weak non-switchable player from the playoffs? Kanter and Walker? I do agree, though. Give me all the wings and make sure the bigs are mobile and can defend out to the perimeter (gimme Tillman).

Cool, he’s Semi with a worse 3 ball. Precious is my absolute nightmare pick if we stay at 14. I’d want literally anyone else

This is laughable. Semi is like 6' 6 can't block a shot doesn't get any offerings to rebounds just stays outside and throws up bricks. Precious at minimum runs the court like a guard. Is much taller than his 6'9 with his incredibly long wingspan and is a good offensive and defensive rebounder as well as a good shot Blocker.

I feel like Reed is even more so. Same height/wingspan. Slightly more mobile, slightly more committed/consistent on the defensive end.

* standard, this is from watching highlight videos only caveat.

I have not seen enoug of reeds games to know for sure but the scouting reports imply that Precious is much more mobile then reed.

Without any inside info, I think if Danny stays at 14, Hampton is the guy. He's such a classic Danny pick, and before this season he was expected to be the #1 pick.

I'm no expert and just going off highlights of both, so could totally be wrong. There's probably a reason Precious is always mocked higher. But my impression was Precious seems stronger, Reed a little more quicker/active. Here's the Ringer on both:

Precious:
Athletic defender who makes plays in the passing lanes as a mobile helper. With his length and strength, he could develop into a rim protector in smaller lineups.
High defensive potential thanks to his physical measurements and quickness, but his fundamentals and discipline must improve.
Struggles with inconsistency as a defender. His footwork hinders his ability to slide and stay in front of quicker players, but it’s fixable.

Reed
Bouncy leaper who can block shots and rebound. He plays hard and pushes the break after boards.
Multipositional defender with the lateral quickness to contain perimeter players and the size and length to battle against leaner bigs.
Active help defender who closes out, rotates to contest shots, and jumps passing lanes.
Lean frame limits him defensively against true bigs; he gets swallowed inside, which again causes him to foul.

Doesn't seem to really favor one over the other, but I like the Reed on the perimeter comments over the Precious footwork/fundamentals comments. Where are you looking? I've also looked at Stepien and scouting vids from HoopIntellect or something (can't remember right now).

No he wasn't Wiseman was widley considred to be the #1 before his ncaa eligibility issues the highest he was rated in the high school rankings was #5 I believe.

Cole Anthony is the Danny higher HS rankings #2 and an injury, classic Danny Pick.

Every year we're like "if he gets a jumper". You can count the guys who developed a jumper after entering the league on one or two hands.

No I agree Hampton is the guy. Uber-athlete guard Danny loves those. I'm not that high on him but he certainly has potential. Going to have to be patient if he does indeed pan out

Celtics don’t need offense except for bench scoring. What the Celtics need is someone to stop Bam Adebayo from getting 32 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists in an elimination game.

Don’t know if Precious is that guy or not but he potentially fills a HUGE need.

With Haywards status up in the air at this point, we need, as I have been saying all along, to go with a 3 & D wing at 14. Saddiq Bey is the way to go. His shot may be a bit wonky, but dang if it doesn't go in,....a lot. And I'm not talking about 30 % on 2-3 attempts a game. I'm talking about over 45% on almost 6 attempts a game. How many times did Kemba, Brown, Smart, Tatum, hell any of our guys that drove the hoop, drew in the double team, and kicked it out for an open three, only for it to clank off the rim, or for the shot be passed up all together and then cause a turn over ? (I'm looking at you Wannamaker and Semi) I'm so frigging tired of hearing " Well, if he develops a jump shot" I don't know what to do. Forget that crap, Danny, get someone that already HAS a jump shot, and a good one at that. Also, at 6'8 and 225, he is big enough, and fast enough to be very switchable on defense. We can get a big (Oturu, Nnaji, Stewart, Tillman, Perry) or a point (Jones, Flynn, Mannion, Winston, Dotson) at 26 and / or 30 if we want. If they are still available, I think Oturu at 26 and Jones at 30 would be a great draft along with S. Bey at 14. Let Wannamaker, Semi and Green walk, and there's your roster spots, and this doesn't cost a penny to create. And there is no way someone can convince me that those 3 draft picks are not a huge upgrade in talent over the 3 I say we let go. Then move Poirier and Kanter (if he opts in) with cash and future 2nd's to teams with an exception or cap space, and there's 2 roster spots for different veterans for the bench.

Return to Boston Celtics
