Will LeBron James Opt-In To The Last Season Of His Laker Contract If He Loses This Coming Season?

Post#1 » by Dino353 » Fri Nov 6, 2020 7:31 pm

He does have an option for the last season of his deal, if he loses in the playoffs next season what guarantees he'll want to run it back? He'll more than likely opt-in if the Lakers manage to get someone either this off-season or the following whom will allow for him to at least get one more ring. Does he want to chase down Kareem's all-time scoring record in a Laker uniform or does he want to do it in the bright lights of Madison Square Garden in a Knick uniform? Thoughts.

I can only see him leaving LA and going to the team that drafts Bronny James but that's not until 2022/23 if the NBA allows high schoolers to be drafted.

I doubt he wants to move and restart seeing the situation he has there. Unless something goes really wrong, I imagine he'll work with the team to try to provide the cap flexibility to improve the roster. I'm not sure what opting out vs. in would provide for that.

Stars don't leave the Lakers. I hate to break it to you, OP.

Exactly. No reason to leave AD or the city of Los Angeles. I believe it's in his best interest to retire a Laker. It's probably best for his legacy too.

Looks like he should play out the remaining part of his career in LA but who knows what will happen long term. They might have a lot of success and AD decides to try win without lebron. Or if brons son makes the nba I could see lebron playing his final season with him wherever he lands.

But yeah certainly no reason to leave the Lakers and more importantly AD any time soon.

The thing is, he could get another max deal and it would be deserving because of his play, not because of his status, which is crazy as he would be 37, going into his 19th season.

As to the OP, of course, it's his best situation if AD stays and signs, which is in all likelihood just a formality

Lebron moved to the Lakers for family and business. He isn't leaving to ring chase unless he does the play with Bronny thing.

Yes he will probably opt out and sign another 2+1 for around $35m per season.

He was a Star not a Superstar when he left due to his back injury,
And his basketball life was never quite the same after that, to the point he finally came home like the prodigal son and the city forgave and embraced him & we know what happened next
Los Angeles is a City of Champions never forget that.

yes i understand that, Im just not gona be a blind homer n pretend James is loyal to any 1 besides himself n his interest, he left a Heat team when they lost and left clev a 2nd time around....theres better chance AD is more loyal than James at this pt

Bronny is just a sophomore this Fall so he is on track to graduate high school in Spring 2023 which would mean he would apply for the NBA draft for the 23/24 season (assuming they allow draftees straight out of high school). If he has to be 1 year removed from high school then he would likely be drafted the 24/25 season
