Here is the link to Windhort's podcast -> https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/espn/truehoop-tv
The main takeway from the three guys (Windy, Marks, McMahon)
1. Giannis has up until season start to sign extension December 21st (unless CBA changes)
2. Bucks can offer 5-year deal worth $226 million supermax
3. Next summer other team could offer 4-years - $144 million
4. Giannis can still sign the 5/$226mm next summer with Bucks
5. $82mm difference
5. Those guys feel Giannis can get a max or supermax next summer from every team in the league, even if he blows out his ACL.
6. Windy thinks Bucks and Giannis could do the supermax with verbal promise they'd deal him if he later asked.
7. He'd be eligible to be dealt one year after signing the contract.
8. The other two guys don't want the sign & promise deal, because it might preclude Giannis from being traded where he wants to go at some point.

I think this is the likeliest reason for him to do a deal now. No distractions throughout the year and then if it doesn't work out we can trade him for better assets.

Why would giannis sign the deal then not get traded to the team he wants. He can be traded not then sign the new deal with the new team aka Miami

He can't sign the same deal in Miami.

What does he lose... Maybe $20m over 5 years assuming he gets the max extension on a second contract? That's nothing to a guy who is on track to make close to 3/4 billion in his career.
Also, he is a guy that wants to win. Whoever we trade him to will instantly lose 2-3 starting caliber players. If we trade him for some stiffs, there will be uproar around the league.

Re: Giannis Thread - 2 Time MVP - The Contract discussions
I think what makes the most sense for Giannis is a 1+1 or a 2+1. If he wins the championship with us he extends on the 5 year supermax. If not, he leaves via free agency.

I bet Giannis takes the Supermax with the trade promise from Lasry.
NBA revenues aren’t going back up for a few years. Feels like $226 million guaranteed (subject to escrow holdbacks) is a good deal right now.

I get that he can't sign the same supermax or max deal with Miami. I was pointing out that why would giannis take the risk of signing with bucks to get all his money with a promise to be traded to the team he wants in the future when bucks can later disregard the promise and trade him to the team bucks choose to. Giannis strikes me as the type of person that has a problem saying no to people. I hope he upfront with bucks even though I want him in Miami. Tell them I will either stay here longer of tell them am gone after this season but let's play out this one. I will make sure my next team compensate you so I don't leave u high n dry. I feel bad for small market teams but they need to be savvy when they get talent. Always learned from pat Riley that u try to end long contracts the same year ur superstar ends to avoid being without cap

What tends to be missing in this conversation as well as the dialogue surrounding LeBron's first Cavs stint is organizations tend to not function well with a gun to their collective heads. Win now moves are not in the best interest of the decade of stability we (and hopefully Giannis) want to create. So of course a series of short deals seem like the smart move for Antetokounmpo to keep his leverage, but all it does is keep the vulture talk going as we make a series of gambles to keep him happy.
That's just what the Cavs did.

Sounds good but also security matters

Also no state income tax. If giannis wins a ring in Miami , he gets endorsement to make up for the money he might loses. He will also get some in Milwaukee. I was just illustrating the lost capital if he signs elsewhere

I still don't see why he would go to a team that he recently lost to and is one of the Bucks' biggest rivals in the East. This is not KD.

Miami and Toronto don't scare me even half as much as Dallas for a potential Giannis landing spot.

When we lose to Dallas in the second round next season they wont scare me as a potential Giannis destination either.

Honestly as it currently stands I don't even factor in loses to Toronto or Miami at all in Giannis' decision.

Ι still haven't seen the slightest indication he's leaving, but who the hell knows.
If he ends up leaving I'd love it if he took a giant dump on all predictions, entitlements, wishful thinkings and expectations, and went to Memphis instead, and then won one with JJJ, Morant and Clarke. Would take a couple years for those journos to pick up their jaw from the floor.

Oh we’re here. The only difference I can see is that we’ve got a much more competent head coach, who has installed a system that makes a lot of role players look good around Giannis. Don’t feel like they ever had that in Cleveland.
But we don’t have the second alpha, just as Larry Hughes, Mo Williams, Kevin Love, etc weren’t in Cleveland. LeBron got a season or two of alpha out of Kyrie, and that got him his one title there by the thinnest of margins.

$82 million is just so much money.
The difference in endorsements or taxes are not going to cover that.
If the Bucks agree to trade him if he asks at a future date — perhaps some time after his Disney movie rollout to not interfere with that PR — I could see Giannis giving us another few seasons at least.
That’s especially if he wants a bold move to find an upgraded #2. That might require a Middleton trade or something else that could be 1 step back to take 2 steps forward later, which we couldn’t do if we are operating on a 1 season or bust timeline.

Re: Giannis Thread - 2 Time MVP - The Contract discussions
Has any single player ever said "I'm signing with X team in Florida or Texas because there's no state income tax on my 9 figure deal!" Yet for some reason, everybody always brings that up as a reason for players to sign there.
