Hey everyone, Bulls fan coming in peace. In a Ball/Avdija #1 and #2 scenario, what is Charlotte's board looking like from the perspective of fitting the roster rather than BPA?

I really like Okongwu in a trade down as a fit for the roster, but obviously you all know far better than I would.

This is a thread dedicated to discussing Anthony Edwards.

You are welcome to post generalised draft questions in the thread pinned above called “2020 draft discussion”.

Thanks.

Perhaps I should've worded the question better. In the event that Edwards falls to #3; what prospects, if any, would Charlotte consider taking over him(BPA)?

I guess I lean towards believing the reports that say Edwards and WIseman are the top two on our big board, so if Edwards and Avdija go 1 and 2 I think we take Wiseman. The much better question is what we do if Edwards and Wiseman go 1 and 2, that opens the door for a number of possibilities. I'd guess they take Okongwu there, but have nothing to confirm that.

He has some serious concerns, but so does every prospect that will be available to us at 3. Pick your poison.

I'd sign up for a poor man's Hardern in a nanosecond from this draft.

a poor man's harden doesn't get ref respect and.... yeah

there's a lot of poor man hardens out there

I think Edwards will eventually be an all-star caliber offensive player

I think Hayes is closer to Harden though, already has the stepback 3

Anthony Edwards' Pro-Day Workout 'Discouraged' Multiple NBA Teams

Anthony Edwards has been considered a potential No. 1 pick for the 2020 NBA draft on Nov. 18, but his televised pro day on Oct. 29 might have hurt his stock.

According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, "multiple front offices were somewhat discouraged watching Edwards" during his pro day because of his "sluggishness and inconsistencies with his jump shot."

Some have reportedly been concerned the Georgia guard has a low likelihood of reaching his potential, and his pro day didn't help silence the criticism.

Edwards has the ability to be a more athletic Devin Booker, a guy who can get hot and go for 50 on any given night. And before you go off saying Booker is the better passer, he showed none of that in college so I believe Edwards could develop into that role like Beal and Mitchell have done.

He has concerns on defensive end but so do guys like Booker and Murray. He has potential to be really good on that end of coaching staff can get him to buy in (if you don’t believe in JB to do this then we should just move on).

He does has a 10-15% chance to be the next McLemore, but all these prospects have some red flags.

booker was one of the best shooters to ever show up at kentucky and edwards didn't even crack 30% from 3. and murray is way smarter than edwards. shouldn't even be compared

I'm officially out on Edwards.

On the Lowe/Jonathan Givony podcast, they mentioned that Edwards showed up demonstrably out of shape for his agent pro-day a few weeks ago, he was winded 30 seconds into the workout (also shot the ball bad and looked lethargic)

Dude gives me serious guard version of Anthony Bennett vibes.

If you're a professional athlete and you can't stay in shape I don't want you anywhere near my team. The Heat take that stance, we should have the same policy.

Honestly, Edwards as a top 3 pick would've been a hard pill to swallow for a lot of teams. 5 and after though? Man, that's a good value.

I can honestly forgive a kid due to 2020 shenanigans. Its been rough on established, hard working pros. I couldn't in faith come down too hard on a kid unless they had a history of being half-in/half-out.

This year has been hard for a lot of people. I also understand that it isn't exactly easy right now to find people to play pickup games with. But...Edwards for sure has access to multiple gyms to train at. He is still a teenager so I can forgive a lack of discipline given the situation, but if I were Mitch I'd let him know how bad it looks for him to be out of shape.

Why should the GOAT sign checks made out to you when you aren't putting the work in? Do you think MJ would have entered the league looking like you do, pandemic or not? Get your **** together if you want to make it in the league beyond your rookie contract.

Some tough love from someone who cares about you beyond what you can do for them (cough agents, boosters, etc.) can make all the difference in the world to kids.

If Pascal Siakam can show up out of shape than anyone can. He's one of the hardest working guys in the league by all accounts and his poor game shape and performance legit got the Raptors sent home earlier than they should've been.

That Edwards workout is what happens when the league can't make up its mind on a set draft date for months. I don't expect anyone to maintain peak pre-draft performance over a span of months. Its just not realistic. He looked bad, sure, but I think that structure prevents that from happening and the lack of structure is what everyone acknowledges about his time in Georgia already. Its like penalizing the guy twice. Its not like the guy left his team randomly like Ball did and he doesn't have a mini-institution around him like Hayes does either.

No one was truly prepared for everything that happened in the sports world this year. Some guys happened to have better circumstances, but I can't really hold it against anyone who didn't - or how it effected them mentally or physically.

Putting way tooooo much stock in 1 workout here fellas...

Who knows what is going on here. He could be getting over COVID for all we know (I just tested positive a few days ago).

Percentages are great but it’s not a perfect science. Dude was shooting a lot of threes and a lot of them were off the bounce. Of course his percentage is lower than Obi Toppin/Bey who are shooting mainly catch and shoot threes.

Bradley Beal shot 33.9% on 5 attempts on a team where he was 2nd/3rd option.

Edwards shot 29.4% on 7.7 attempts as a number 1 option.

Who do you think got easier looks?

I hope you recover well, but if Edwards had COVID it wouldn't be hidden and it would be major news going into the draft.

Also, Bradley Beal is always someone reach for when it comes to "But Beal shot poorly, so could X" comps. It lacks context. Beal's fundamentals and shooting would've got him drafted straight out of high school - There's not too many guys who can claim that even now. Scouts knew for years his shot was there and his college season was the anomaly while also weighed against all of the other things he improved upon.

Much like Drummond being an absolute tank of a prospect and dominant force up until his time in college. Rebounding wasn't really question for the guy for anyone that followed his development and that college year was the anomaly.

Edwards can't really make that claim. Contrary to all the current player comparisons - dude is a serious project. Beal was far more polished in every way.

Seems more and more likely that this is the guy who will be there when we pick at 3. My opinions on him have been a roller coaster.

the fact that the season is starting in december instead of february means all of these rooks will be getting a pass more or less this season. guys will be getting the development year treatment whether they like it or not

Your argument is that because Drummond and Beal were top prospects heading into college scouts didn’t look at the sample size and worry.

You do realize Edwards was the #4 espn, #1 247 and #3 on rivals heading into this year? It’s not like he has just now popped onto the scene. His shooting form has no major flaws and he made 2.3 threes a game in college.

It’s crazy how a team will look at guy who makes 0.7 threes a game and says he shot 41% from deep so that should translate but freak out when a guy shoots poorly on a bunch of attempts. The guy who makes .7 a game is shooting only shots when he is wide open, off the catch and in rhythm. Where as Edwards is taking probably over half his attempts off the dribble, shot clock on his back and somewhat contested.

Not all shots are created equal.

And it wasn't because of his shooting or rebounding being some of the best in the nation.... which is kinda my point

again, i'm not hating on edwards. i like him. i just think this entire draft class is getting way too much excitement across the board due to boredom and hype. guys throw around Harden and Booker comps when it should be more Rodney Stuckey and Bonzi Wells. Not every draft class is HOF level talent or anything close to that. Sometimes you're happy to get a Zeller out of it instead of a Ben McLemore.

Ben McLemore or Dwayne Wade.

This kids possible range of possible outcome is sooooooooo far apart it’s scary.

I dont think he'll ever be Wade, but there is a chance he could be Donovan Mitchell-lite.
