Go after Christian Wood at all costs
I think Wood is the real prize of the off-season. He has the tools and skills to be a high end scorer and he isn't horrible defensively. He could probably be a 20+ scorer if he was required to be. He isn't a great rim protector and for that reason I would also target Vassell in the draft. He's the type of player that could rack up a lot of value in just one season.
If we want to go after Wood it would probably mean trading Powell. Powell+Davis probably has enough value to get a lottery pick and help us create room to sign Wood.
This would also mean renouncing FVV and Ibaka. I think Ibaka is a goner unless he agrees to a 1 year deal. I'm not sure if that would be in Toronto's best interest however. FVV is too small to be the future point guard. Lowry is an anamoly at his size. I don't want to see the Raptors overpay Fred at all.

Re: Go after Christian Wood at all costs
Players like Wood are fairly common in this league and don't move the needle much in a team going from good (2nd round team that we are) to great (contending). I certainly would not give up FVV, Norm just to get him.

What the..?
Wood is not a common player at all.
The player you're describing is a top 5 player. Where are we supposed to get those?
Wood might end up being even better in NN's system compared to Dwane and he really put it together last season. If he had opportunity like that all season long he would be a defacto max player.
Wood is the closest thing to a max the Raptors could probably bring in with free agency.
Since Detroit dumped Andre Drummond at the trade deadline, Wood has been nothing short of spectacular. In his last 12 games, he’s averaging 22 points and 10.2 rebounds per game on 54 percent shooting from the field and 37.3 percent shooting from three-point range.

Re: Go after Christian Wood at all costs
wood has all the tools to be an allstar center, perfect for the modern game. NN teaching him how to be a better defender and his value to the team would be ridiculous

Re: Go after Christian Wood at all costs
Woods hot streak gives me 13 game Bargnani/Bargs dozen vibes.
There’s 4-5 guys in the draft that have a similar skillset so if we ended up drafting one of them, I wouldn’t want Woods blocking their path to minutes.
Dewans toolkit is similar if he can stay healthy and improve off of his rookie year.

I hope the Raptors are not looking to spend too much money on the 5 position

Re: Go after Christian Wood at all costs
This board gets antsy and then all types of topics come about, we don't have cap space this summer and opening up capspace dilutes this team a lot. If we can get wood with the MLE that would be amazing, I don't think that will happen because detroit can and should offer more than that.
Good player tho, chances of getting him r slim

Stupidest thread in a long time. Never go after players that put up big stats on teams that are POS. Fools gold, like Colangelo fell for hook line and sinker.
Everybody is losing their freaking minds. Nutbars and wingnuts have infested this forum. We've become a public lavatory without cleaning staff.

Ibaka averages 20/11 per 36 and can perform in the playoffs. Are we sure we’d rather have woods?

He should be a max player but I think he would see the benefit of joining Toronto then going for a big contract in 2/3 years.
The only way he could be brought here is if Ibaka, Gasol, and FVV are renounced which is still a big possibility. Norman, Davis, and 29 could probably bring back a top 10 pick from another team with cap room. I would probably go for Vassell to remain competitive and have a strong defense for the playoffs. Other prospects in that range would be Terry, Tyrese Haliburton, and Hayes.
Wood
Siakam
OG
Vassell
Lowry
Siakam, OG, and Vassell put together an elite perimeter defense. Lowry is a great team defender and Wood doesn't need to be hidden. We need a historically great, versatile offense for another finals berth. Embiid, Jokic, and post up centers aren't a concern anymore. Wood is the best fit we could probably find.

The **** is with the fascination for this guy. He put up decent numbers on a bad team and they won a grand total of two games with him playing increased minutes. He's an average player that comes of the bench on a really good team.

Depends on how you look at it. It could be a good thing. Dwane didn't use him as well as NN could.
He has all of the tools you would want at center.
He didn't have any plays called for him he got all of his points and shots within the flow of the offense. That's scalable to a better team.
We should absolutely go for him he would be a max player if the season went on regularly.
