Rubio would be a great fit on the Clippers, ideally just deal Pat Beverly but I doubt that would be enough.

Suns insider (not Flex) reported this last week.

This is my prediction:

Suns get: Paul, OKC 25th pick
Thunder get: Wiggins, 2pick
GSW gets Rubio and Oubre

Suns shouldn't need to give up the 10 as they are taking on a massive contract and giving up 2 very valuable players.

That doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Warriors

Dump one of the worst contracts in the league and pick up 2 players who can help them win now. They'd have the ability to get more cap flexibility too. Guess it depends on what they value more right now

Neither Rubio or oubre are win now players, this is terrible for gsw

Only 2 years left. What do Suns have to lose. Their goal should be to make playoffs

Which we were .5 games of accomplishing with our current roster. They lose any team chemistry they had developed with Rubio/Oubre, replacing with Paul who maybe bumps them up a seed or 2, and that's IF he stays healthy. No thank you.

They were better when oubre was hurt and paul is alot better than rubio. Furthermore gsw will surely be back in the playoffs so they more than likely push okc out

You guys need to keep Booker happy. Hes tired of missing playoffs. Cp3 would put them there

Im not gonna overreact over that 8-0 streak. I wanna see them play like that in Phoenix not the Disney bubble

I agree. The 8-0 in the bubble means jack **** tbh. While I don’t love the cp3 deal- it’s a huge signal to booker that the franchise is going to make real moves to get notable players with cache into Phx paired with him. Being .5 out of a playoff spot isn’t doing anything.

I said this in the other "bEst fit for CP3" thread.

Oubre, Rubio for CP3 works under the checker because the Suns have capspace. Suns played just fine without Oubre in the bubble with Cam Johnson, Bridges, and Saric manning the 4. CP3 would push those young Suns to the next level and would be especially great to help develop them. Oubre and Rubio are pretty much less dominating versions of Gallo and CP3 so they can start to shift to more of a younger, SGA led team while still winning.

I've always thought that the Suns landing CP3 makes a lot of sense. Living in Arizona is a plus for a lot of athletes too because of it's central location between LA, San Diego & Vegas.

Unless a team is looking to win next year I can't see trading for Chris Paul being anything but a mistake.

So like... idk Lakers, Clippers, Bucs. That's about the only teams that can justify it.

The Nuggets can too just because they have endless amazing prospects to trade that they can just promote from within and not miss a beat.

So maybe the Nuggets to that list. Anyone else and it seems like an empty get me to the conference finals trade at the cost of the future.

For the Suns getting to the conference finals would be a terrific result, not a disappointment and neither Rubio nor Oubre are any part of their future. Odd take.

Chris Paul played under Monty Williams and has a lot of respect for him. The Suns haven't been to the playoffs since 2010, Devin Booker is reportedly not happy right now and you want DeAndre Ayton to grow. Chris Paul is actually a really good fit for the Phoenix Suns. I would suspect that Ricky Rubio, Kelly Oubre, Jr. & a Future 1st Round Pick for CP3 is easy enough to get done. For the Thunder, they don't even get worse, they could actually keep it up the winning and they will have a new coach coming in (Don't expect them to make the playoffs though). But SGA & Oubre would be a nice pair together for the future.

I think it makes sense for cp3 and suns but can Suns afford him? How will that play out with his contract?

Just... no.

Paul's contract, no matter what he might bring as a player despite his highly advanced age, is a dealbreaker and it just isn't worth it over Rubio AND Oubre seeing that's what it would cost to acquire him. Rubio is an actual distributor and looks to do that first; Paul, while a solid distributor, is primarily looking to score and we don't need any more of that.

While this could be a boon for the team and finally get them back to the playoffs, it doesn't do any good if it's a first round bounce due to not having sufficient weapons on the roster. It could very easily become a bust as well if Paul were to get injured severely enough to be out for a long stretch.

They have a way of getting up to $20 million in cap space in the offseason, though I think that would require trading their pick. But if they keep the pick, they still would have about $17 million in space if they renounce Saric, Baynes, Jevon Carter, etc.

If they give up Oubre and Rubio they'd have to absorb $9 million or so. This would leave them about $8 million in cap space...they would probably just try and keep Saric. They would probably try to throw Ty Jerome into the trade to clear space to not have to renounce Saric.

Then they'd basically be right at the cap, and Bridges and Ayton would be up for new contracts the year after Paul expired.

Depth would be thin though. Something like:

CP3/Cameron Payne/Draft pick?
Booker/Draft pick?
Bridges/Cam
Cam/Saric
Ayton/Saric

I think they may try and trade down and get more picks though...like if they could trade 10 to Boston for 14 and 26 I think they'd prefer something like Terry and Bane or Bane and Riller or something like that to give them guys at the 1 and 2 spots.

Bane can defend, handle, shoots like 43% from 3, averages like 4 assists per game so could play with Paul or Booker when they sit.

If it happens I will be excited to see what happens but I wouldn't pull the trigger. I like Rubio and he has really set the tone on the team and they play A LOT better with him. He is only 30 as well and theoretically they could even re-sign him after this contract possibly...he's at the age they signed Nash in 2004 and he played 8 years with the Suns.

Then I think Oubre could bring back someone else in trade...Aaron Gordon has been talked about.

Then there is the extra $9 million on top of those two salaries Paul costs. That costs a pretty good free agent signing or someone like Saric.

Then in 2 years you basically are back at square one unless you have developed your PG of the future, which the Knicks and Suns can tell you is easier said than done.

On top of that, he usually misses about 25% of his games, so that would mean Cameron Payne is starting. That probably wouldn't work so well.

they were 0.5 games away in the weirdest season of all time. Warriors should be better next year, there won't be a bubble. I think it's foolish for the Suns to just assume they will make the playoffs just because they were close this year

A solid point. While Rubio isn't as big a name as Paul, he's definitely a far better fit for more reasons than one.

I've heard the Gordon thing on more than one occasion over the past few years. Nothing seems to want to materialize. I don't know how good a fit he'd be next to Ayton, but I have never been any Ayton fan and was all on the Ayton plus whatever to get KAT here train. Still, Gordon would be a solid upgrade over whoever is starting on the low block. Saric is decent and helps stretch the defense with his shooting, but we don't need that from a front court player. We need inside scoring, rebounding, and defense. Gordon would bring that, plus he's a decent shooter from distance.

Agreed on the point about Payne starting. He's decent as a backup and can play well in spurts, but the dude just isn't a first team guy in my opinion.
