I with Rex, I do not think Carey is a first rounder. I think Carey is a project and not a great physical prospect to be a project. I think he could become a good NBA player but not worth a first and have to wait multiple years to be a role player.RexBoyWonder wrote:heat4life wrote:RexBoyWonder wrote:
Very puzzling to me, Unless the kid magically lost 30 pounds and as a result moves way quicker, and suddenly became a consistent outside shooter - we have no no business selecting him.
A slow heavy non shooting post up 6"10 guy, as talented as may be, is THE LAST THING this team needs next to Bam.
His father was quoted as saying he lost 23lbs. since the season was cancelled down from 260. It doesn't mean much if his lateral movement isn't quick. We are back to Hassan Whiteside defending the perimeter. The kid can score in the paint which was a weakness for us during the finals when we couldn't get to the paint. I would say he needs to improve his scoring range out and his passing out of the paint if he is going to play there. Defensively is where he's shown physical limitations. How much can he improved his lateral movement and foot work? That to me is the key to his future.
He's just 19 YO so he's still growing, I have a hard time believing he lost 23 pounds considering he an active athlete to begin with, I'll need more then his dad's word for that.
Zion, as talented as he is - is the prime example of how challenging it is for some guys to keep their body light enough for basketball.
If he really did lose a ton of weight AND added an outside shot - he's practically a different player then we saw. Doesn't seem likely but I guess that's why we worked him out.
