Western Conference guards in the news today:
Chris Paul
Westbrook
Jrue
Harden (waiting for the next shoe to drop here, but has some already)
Rubio (by extension as a Paul trade)

I'm looking at Portland and wondering why their guards haven't made news yet? A surprise McCollum rumor or anyone else that can join this chaos?

They have to be close to breaking up that duo. Should be able to get value for CJ. A ton in return for Dame.

The wild west is coming to the NBA this off-season everyone. I almost hope Giannis opts not to sign just to add to the chaos with the 2021 positioning. I have a feeling Portland is going to make a move, I didn't about a week ago... but with this much activity I think their going to push their chips in and go for it.

That said, it won't be CJ. Olshey won't trade him until he's 100% sure it's not going to work... No chance he's convinced yet. Feels like a Aaron Gordon + Crowder type of off-season coming.

I think if CJ gets moved, it will be next off-season.

I actually think it makes sense to give it one more year because Olshey has tons more flexibility than he has recently.

One other thing that tilted into the Blazers favor... Dame just got like 20 million dollars cheaper.

This is true, anything that comes from Woj about the Blazers is coming directly from Olshey... which means he wants it out there.

Lowe has referenced it, and it makes me wonder, but are we going to see some weird moves, not because of Covid, but because it's been 9 months since anyone has been able to trade? We've got 5-6 new main decision makers around the league, and they all have yet to be able to make any moves, and the offseason is super condensed. Might we see some moves made that guy will regret in pretty short order, just in being antsy?

I think it will be more that the season starts so soon, you are going from no activity for 9 months to a whole off-season crammed into a few weeks and teams may rush into bad choices just so they don’t miss out.

...and there's likely still some tenured GM's who will feel pressure to make some moves and save their jobs? :dontknow:

I think this is blaming the wrong source. Who gets antsy and tells people to do things? Owners. Owners who have had the same crappy roster suck for 18 months are gonna demand anything change, and GM's will take the falls if the change for the sake of change and it backfires.

I have Atlanta and maybe Cleveland wanting to show some progress., so maybe they will also be bold in the offseason.

The fact that there is no Giannis extension news is not the sign I want as a Milwaukee fan right now.

Even if he has every intention of resigning it's still probably in his interest not to say so yet so he can exert maximum influence over their offseason moves.

At which point, doesn't Shams have some headline like: "Milwaukee looking into Chris Paul, with Giannis to sign supermax if they pull it off'. Maybe I'm just a day early, and it will be tomorrow when I wake up. :)

I think the headline is from Woj: Giannis willing to resign if Bucks can close Al Horford and Tobias Harris trade. Working to acquire more first round picks.

GSW hangs on to #2. I don't think they are going to find the value they covet with it and the TPE. Wiggins is not going anywhere.

I don't know why, but I think the Knicks end up making a big Chris Paul trade where the Thunder get 8th Overall and the Knicks get 25th Overall and a few future first round draft picks

How many picks bridges that gap? I'm assuming the Rockets picks would be of particular interest to be ready for a big offer for a Harden deal if/when it's available.

Portland has been ominously quiet with absolutely nothing but the Jay Scrubb talk. I'd agree with the notion that they could
push in all their chips if there was a player they could get that is better than the Dame/CJ/Nurk core. They are going to need
to do something for they must know there is nobody they can get in the draft or in free agency with their MLE that would
make them a favorite in a playoff series in the very strong western conference.

Houston might be imploding. Reports today on Gordon, Tucker, and House all unhappy with their role and Tucker unhappy with no extension/raise. Silas got thrown into the fire for sure.

Yeah, sucks for Silas/Stone to be dropped into.

But, luckily, if it really does implode, Harden is signed for multiple years, so he could clearly return a massive ton of value. Tucker is tradeable, and he's at an age where he should recognize that it's tough for any team to extend him. Just crazy tough to extend a guy that'll turn 36 during this season.

House is a knucklehead which could limit his market, but man, he's good enough to help teams and nearly dirt cheap. Eric Gordon is a hard one to peg.
