"Williams would come to the Pistons as a great defensive prospect capable of switching on the perimeter and holding his own in the paint. He seems to be destined to play power forward in the NBA, which is the same long-term potential Sekou Doumbouya shows. But as the NBA Playoffs continue to show, you can never have two many strong, athletic and long forwards on your roster."
Yeah I said before he looks like a tweener. As a tweener he doesnt even look that good. Shooting is not his thing. Handles are a problem too.
So he looks like a downer, other than maybe a A+ SF defender, possibly. But as I showed, he doesnt have eye popping numbers. 6'8" with a 6'11"/7' wingpsan is bad. Especially is thats his main positive.
Then what about Sekou? Sekou has shown he can shoot, he can cut and does have some savvy BB IQ, he has gone coast to coast. Plus hes still younger than most of the guys in the draft now. And will likely grow.
Sekou is 6'9" with a 6'11"/7ft wingspan. No one looks at him as some extreme athlete outlier, but thats what Patrick Williams is supposed to be.
I hope its Hayes. Not Toppin or Williams. Even AAron Nesmith looks better. 6'6" with a 7ft wingspan. He looks like a SG that can SHOOT.

Draft the best 2-way player with plus size and positive A/to ratio available,
don't give up any picks.
Get extra picks without giving up any.
Repeat.
This is simple.
I'm down with that

How many draft picks do you think Detroit will choose this year? Trading for more, trading for less, taking contracts for more. How many new players via the draft do you think Detroit will end up getting out of this years draft?
I'm going with 3. +/- 1.

ESPN has us taking Obi Toppin at 7 with Hayes and others still on the board as their 'perfect pick for every team'.
https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/29861481/nba-draft-2020-perfect-picks-every-team-first-round
I mean, if our goal is to try and win now then Toppin is our guy. But that's the last thing we should be doing right now... smh
Maybe the ESPN pundit looked at the last 15 years of treadmill and figured this is the shortest route to get back there?

I'm going with 3. +/- 1.
I'll say 2, I think they stay at 7 and pick up a early 2nd rounder.

I agree with this, though I wouldn’t be totally surprised if they trade Rose or Kennard on draft night and pick up an additional 1st as part of the deal.

I just dont see them in a rush to move Kennard cause it could backfire in their face (unless it's a good enough pick in that 10-16 type range)
Rose I'm starting to feel like he has connections giving him job security here where he apparently wants to be

Yeah, I’m not suggesting they rush into any deals. Just saying that it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened on that front.

Not original but if Detroit drafts Williams, trading Snell to Sacramento for Corey Joseph and #35 would seem to make sense. Joseph has an extra year hence the early second rounder. Joseph, of course, played for Casey before in Toronto.

if this draft class had a quality selection of prospects then i'd be okay with them trading kennard for a lottery pick but considering how weak it is i'd be pretty upset if they traded him for anything that didn't net anthony edwards.
rose on the other hand, i'd be upset if we didn't trade him for a first rounder. him plus the 7th pick miiiight net the 2nd overall pick from the warriors if edwards was still available, otherwise i'd trade rose for the highest first rounder available. i have a hard time seeing a lot of the teams drafting in the 20's not being willing to give up their pick for rose.

I don't know, if the Pistons draft a PG, I'd like to have Rose around to mentor him. This is not the old version of Derrick Rose that I'd want nowhere near young players. Even if it is just up to the next trade deadline, I think it would be invaluable to have a young PG mentored by Rose.

i appreciate that role but i think rose would be terrible at it. he's always been reliant on his athletic ability and never been a cerebral player or a great facilitator. i'd much rather sign some old, wily vet like andre miller or jose calderon to play that role and be able able to give actual insight and not take minutes away from a rookie PG. i know they're retired and as far as i know there aren't great PG mentors in this free agent class but maybe isaiah thomas would work? trade rose for actual value, draft a PG then sign thomas for the minimum or close to it.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
Derrick Rose is a terrible PG. He shouldnt be teaching anyone, anything.
He runs at the basket as fast as he can and throws up a shot. That worked GREAT when he was top 5 in athleticism in the world.
Our entire offense for half the season DRose was on fire: Run to the rim and shoot -- maybe pass out to a guy for a 3.
A good offense involves off ball movement, but that isnt OK because they got in the way of Drose running to the rim.

i like that they say "shades of" instead "nba comparison" or whatever.
also, going to spend the next week looking more into the prospects but at a glance i think i'd be happy with any of patrick williams, killian hayes or tyrese haliburton. at least one of them should be available at 7. in this draft pretty much everyone has some flaws and/or needs a bunch of development but those three guys have tools that could make them the best players in the draft class at the end of the day.
i'd prefer one of the lead guards just because we need one badly but adding a player like patrick williams alongside doumbouya gives the team a ton of defensive versatility.
