Westbrook wants out of Houston - Will be linked to Detroit.

Westbrook wants out of Houston - Will be linked to Detroit.

He's going to be linked to us both because our GM drafted him in OKC, and we also have a large contract that would swap for him 1 for 1 in Blake.

That said, I'm not saying we should trade for him at all but its certainly something that is going to be discussed as we move towards the draft at FA.

Dear lord here we go again lol.
Blake to warriors for Edwards  (#2) and Wiggins going around also. Hmmmm
I am down if we can somehow keep 7. Wiggins deal is horrible. They can have Rose. We keep 7

He may be linked to Detroit, but I want nothing to do with him. His contract is a year longer than Blake's (while making substantially more $/yr.), he's 32, and he's not a fitting piece within our long-term rebuild plan. I'd like to think that we're on the cusp of a proper rebuild based on the actions of the front office ending last season, and some of the things we've read in THIS offseason. This type of trade would fly in the face of the logical long-term plan that this team seems to have FINALLY bought into.

I agree 100% and I'm not even sure his impact on winning is greater than that of Rose at this point. Rose most likely will age better as well as Westbrook relies so heavily on his athleticism.

#2/Wiggins for Blake/#7 would be much preferred by me. At least Wiggins is young enough that he could still develop into something more than he has been.

The best option might be to just ride out Blake's contract as opposed to taking on longer salary.

Houston doesn't have a couple FRP's that I'd want in return for taking on the extra year and $40M+ of Westbrook's salary - they gave them to OKC along with Paul to get Westbrook.

100% wholeheartedly agree. I've already resolved myself to having Blake until his massive contract expires in 22. If we're setting ourselves up correctly, drafting well this year and next, with some proper internal growth, we should have a LOT of cap to chase a couple of great pieces heading into 23, if not sooner.

Houston doesn't have any picks in this draft. They don't have control of their 2021 or 2025 1sts as they are contingent upon swaps, Their 2024 & 2026 1sts are going to OKC. Which only leaves them having picks in '22 and '23. And I believe they can't trade them due to the Stepien rule (can't trade picks in consecutive drafts.)

They have nothing of value to even remotely consider the idea of swapping Blake's 2 years for Russ 3 years. Not to mention Blake is a good soldier type even on a bad team, while Westbrook doesn't fit that bill.

Want no part of Westbrook simply because he's not going to help anyone else develop!

After KD left OKC what happened? Russ padded his stats year after year, even with pre-pandemic Paul George (& Melo) on his roster.

I don't see him helping Wood, Sekou, Luke, Brown or Svi much at all - they'd all become bystanders to his show.

I'd prefer to keep Blake & Rose around those guys. Both have overcome a lot of obstacles to achieve what they have in the league and both appear to be "good" locker room leaders.

love the people crapping on Westbrook

Blake doesnt play and hasnt played for a long time

At least Westbrook will literally leave his life on the court for our team, we havent had a player like that since Big Ben

id do this in a heartbeat if i was the Pistons

Houston has no picks to offer so id try to make Covington and Tucker the incentive

Blake + Snell + Maker
for
Westbrook + Covington + Tucker

Covington is a major improvement over Snell and easily could be traded with his cheap value deal at 11-12M a year

Houston would save around 70M on this deal, their cheapskate owner might actually go for this

Id sign Bertrans to a huge 3 year deal that is set to expire the same time as Westbrook

Pistons line up would look like this:

Westbrook / Rose
Kennard / Svi - Brown - Thomas
Covington / Galloway - Doumbouya
Bertrans / Tucker
Wood / -----
+ draft pick 2020,

That's what we thought we were getting with AI.
He fell off a cliff when he arrived here.
That's the fear I'd have with Westbrook.

Lol, no. He's not a winner and will never take your team to a deep run in the playoffs as the main guy which he easily should be with the lack of talent here.

That and his contract is longer and more percentage of cap taken? That alone disqualifies him

We do this every year with Westbrook it seems like now. The mental gymnastics of it all

Whoever plays behind Westbrook will get limited development and those youngsters on the court with him will learn to defer to him instead of working as a team. Even if the money and term were the same, Griffin has shown more willingness to adapt to what the team needs from him. I can't see Westbrook being as much of a positive force in the locker room and mentor while rebuilding.

An additional year, more money and potentially retarding development of a young foundation are pretty good reasons to pass IMO.

Snell + #7 for Westbrook to have a "big 2" of Westbrook + Blake is such a thing the Pistons would do.

I'm sure we'll be linked to this since we have cap space and a big contract to trade, but please no. He's obviously still a dynamic player, but he's 32 and on a huge deal. Could he drag us to the playoffs in the east? Maybe. Would that team contend for a title? No. Would they have any shot of building a contending team before westbrook retires? No.

WTF is this? The last thing the Pistons should be doing is trading for an expensive 30+ year old, it defies all logic.
Just because Weaver was part of a staff in OKC, that traded Westbrook btw, doesn't mean he'll be interested in trading for him now. I will have lost complete faith in him if he even attempted to do something as foolish as this.
