I think Gilbert is right.. and it’s kind of why I’m a lil skeptical on if the game has passed Thibs by.. of course playing great defense is important still. But you also have to have fire power to compete in today’s NBA.. just getting by on defense only like the 04 pistons won’t cut it

i haven't watched the video, but i agree with the assessment that today's players are way too athletic and way too skilled to try to win without top flight offensive firepower and execution. you need defense, but a defense-only team isn't gonna win.

a team like the knicks has some of the right pieces defensively that get you over the hump, but they need to be supplemented with more scoring talent. your defensive specialists also have to bring SOMETHING to the table offensively, ideally shooting and/or playmaking.

i'd like to think we still don't focus enough on the five on the floor. when i played and coached, i always tried to push the philosophy of five as one. the players on the court have to become a composite organism. not guys doing what they do. everything gets maximized that way.

I've been trying to preach this since the bubble. The game has evolved.... after watching Murray, Mitchell, Miami - just hit me how important scoring/SHOOTING is. Without it, it's dang near impossible to succeed in today's NBA

Yeah I'm not buying the Hornets wanting Westbrook considering they didn't even want to pay Kemba to return. Rockets really have no assets to even attach to him to move him. yikes!

I doubt Borrego is tryna rework his offensive system to placate this chuck.

NoDopeOnSundays wrote:Really not high on Kira, I feel like if he didn't look a little like Morant he'd be going in the 20s, but those locks and being 6'2"-6'3" got people looking at him like he's the next point god . Nothing really jumps out about him other than his speed, he's not really that quick in the halfcourt, he's not explosive, he's not a great shooter, he seems like your standard PG. I don't see someone like him ever being a top 5 guy at PG, so why is there such overt love for him?

I'd rather take a chance on Hayes or even Terry, especially since I wonder how a guy like Lewis will transition from always having the ball, to having to learn to play off it because RJ will need it as well. At least with Terry there's an elite skill there that could turn him into a valuable off ball player, and with Hayes he has the size to play the 2. Really, I don't like Maxey or Lewis, they're like the standard "Me too" PG where nothing really stands out. They're also at a size where you can't play them at the 2, so if you draft them they absolutely have to be your starting PG, or else it's a wasted pick since they can't be anything else.

we need more of this FUD(Fear Uncertainty and Doubt) spread about Kira so we can make sure we get him.

to answer your question Kira is:
- in the 99 percentile at creating quality shoots for his teammates. Basically that means he is getting in the lane at will and kicking out to his teammates for WIDE OPEN looks..
- in the 89th percentile at catch and shoot
- In the 79th percentile at shooting off the dribble

ok so those are just the advanced stats how can you argue with those numbers? I mean damn they look stellar. When you watch him play his speed definitely passes the eye test.

And to address your negatives. I've heard people say he does need to get a running start because his quickness isnt that great in the halfcourt. I don't necessarily agree with that. I think once he adds strength he is going to blow by defenders more easily. and even if he doesnt get strength he is still going to be a blur coming off that high pick and roll which Thibs loves to run. As for defensive versatility you are right he will only be able to play one position.

Absolutely not

He can go anywhere but the Knicks. Leon is better than this, at least I'm hoping.

Charlotte seems dumb enough to trade for Westbrook.

Which is good so he doesn't go to the Knicks, but bad because they don't take Randle.

But also good, since it eats up their cap space in one swell foop.
