Not so. The “asset” the Celtics would get for Hayward if he flat out leaves is not paying the luxury tax and being able to use the full MLE worth about $10 million annually.

Don’t worry, Hayward is not opting out under these market conditions

I mean sure you get the full MLE so you're technically correct but strictly speaking you're losing a 17/6/4 guy for [*]basically[*] nothing since you are still over the cap and can't use that $30 million salary spot he's leaving behind on another max guy.

I don't think they will be over the cap if he opts out, but there are ways to get over.

Would think this means the end of Kemba in Boston with Hayward’s contract situation in flux. Can’t imagine Brown is on the table for Holiday

Holiday to Celtics, Kemba to Hornets, picks/prospects to Pelicans.

Lol would never happen but would love it

Holiday to Celtics, 14, 26, 30 (pelicans use these to get into the top 8?) + asset from third team to Pelicans, Hayward to third team.

Bumping this due to the KOC news

Think this more likely means that Hayward is indeed his way out the door one way or the other (free agency, opt-in and trade, or opt out and sign-and-trade)

3 team trade:

NOP gets: 6, minor asset
ATL gets: Hayward, 14, 26, 30
Boston gets: Jrue

Guessing thats the frame work. That is a damn sexy move if we can make it.

I love Jrue Holiday. Something's gotta give, though. He makes 25 million/year, plus he would make people redundant.

From KOC

BOSTON CELTICS

The Celtics have offered up their three first-round picks (nos. 14, 26, and 30) in trades to try and move into the lottery, but multiple league sources say they intend to reroute that pick to the Pelicans in exchange for Jrue Holiday. If Boston is able to acquire the necessary assets, it’d still need to add salaries to make a deal work. Could that mean Gordon Hayward or Kemba Walker could be on the move? No matter the case, the Celtics are up to something big to try and bolster their title odds. If they keep the 14th pick, Hampton makes sense because he could immediately serve as a spark-plug scorer off the bench and provide long-term upside.

Then at least another player would have to be sent our way to make salaries work, correct?

It would make more sense to move Kemba than Hayward if you're Boston trying to return Jrue. But that's not going to happen.

Maybe there are multiple moves imminent. Curiouser and curiouser.

Imagine trying to score on a lineup with Smart, Jrue, Jaylen, Tatum, and Theis

Return to Boston Celtics
