John Collins for the #2 pick

Post#1 » by davefmcl » Thu Nov 12, 2020 4:13 pm

On Chad Ford’s podcast, he and Josh. Hollinger discussed a rumored deal between Atlanta and Golden State: John Collins for the #2 pick.
The Hawks would then select Anthony Edwards at #2 and Obi Toppin at #6. Thoughts on this plan?

Nope. Not helping the Scrubs win a ring. No interest in adding 2 more 1st round picks this year. We groomed Collins, if we end up trading him it won’t be for another draft pick this year.

Wrong direction for the Hawks if the plan is to make the playoffs next season by adding 2 rookies. We saw what we looked like without JC lats season and 2 rookies playing a lot of minutes.
Easy NO from this Hawks fans.

I will say yes depending on if Golden State includes more. I would think they need, too. Looking back the #2 pick could become a superstar while John Collins ceiling is a borderline star talent.

I think the Hawks have to know how they feel about paying John Collins in the range of 20 million a year for 4 years. If the like that value you turn the deal down, if you don’t then I think you strongly consider it?

Wolves fans have already been trying to offer #1 for Collins. If you want JC, GSW are going to have to add more assets to the deal.

I don't remember seeing any Wolves fans offering #1 for Collins. As a Wolves fan I definitely wouldn't do that.

I mentioned more would need to be added from Golden State but that doesn't mean I expect alot more value.

Are you thinking the #2 and one of the following players; Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, or Eric Paschall?

That's a good point. I think that if John can sign for the same kind of contract than Sabonis, there is no trade, if his agent keeps asking the Max, this trade makes sense.
But even if he was asking the Max I'd be 50/50 on it, we loose experience, but if it allow to avoid hard negotiations next summer for John and loosing time for other F.A., or give more cap room next summer (if he signs an extension before and get a higher cap hold), it could be interesting, but it would require to add at least a vet like Rubio, Mills to bring a bit of experience and improve PG defense.

John Collins is a 20/10 versatile athletic big. We groomed him and he is on the same timeline as Trae, Cam and Hunter. There is absolutely no reason to trade him and become somebody’s farm system. If we traded him there is about a 10% chance that we find somebody at his age with his qualifications. It just doesn’t make sense. In fact, if he is able to stay healthy and produce similar numbers I’m all for signing him if we are successful as a team this year.

He’s a rare one. Give us time and play the young guys. We played them last year and they took their bumps but learned on the fly. All they need is some steady young vets on the roster to motivate our young group.

I don’t want to trade John Collins.

If Collins was in this draft, he would go #2? Come on. I wouldn't even think of trading him for #2. NO!

I like John Collins and admire his work ethic and believe he's worth the extension we better pay him but the #2 pick in any draft has the potential to become a superstar. That's why management would do it.

According to the latest rumor unread on the General Board Golden State is pursuing Kevin Love now but GS & Cleveland need a third team.
Maybe us and Golden State discussing a trade is dead now.

If Collins's agent insists on the max, I'd trade Collins for #2 and Paschall, and yes, I would take Edwards and Toppin. Adding Toppin, Edwards and Paschall and only giving up Collins is more than worth it. Only decision from there would be to strike this offseason by taking on a star with cap space or saving the space for 2021 to entice a superstar to go along with all the young stars.

I don't see Edwards or Wiseman having super-star potential. Much more likely that they are viewed as very disappointing #1 and #2 picks.

Keep JC
