The Raptors will begin the 2020-21 season in Tampa, Masai Ujiri says in a statement.

Ahh yes...send the Canadian team to the one renegade state that has the most COVID cases in the U.S. compared to their population so that they dont have to worry about COVID travel across borders.

Its like dropping them in a COVID volcano

Well hopefully the guys enjoy the weather.

Freddy was campaigning for it , as was mentioned on the JJ podcast.

I was hoping for some place that was basketball starved, so we can have a cross border relation with the fans.

Tampa sounds like low fan viewership.

Its because everybody that lives in Tampa is a retired 65 year old transplant from a different state. Its a retirement community.

Would have liked for them to keep it close and play in Buffalo across the river.

Tampa Bay has one of the highest proportion of Greek Americans in the US..

I think we found our reason why.

You're way off, current status shows the largest increases are in cases are in:

Maine
Minny
Washington
Oklahoma
Illinois
Texas
Wisconsin
California

Listed in order.

Not sure, but you may be misinterpreting the facts... largest increases is not the same as largest totals... idk

Largest totals will align with the most populous states, those numbers are irrelevant to this discussion.

International travel restrictions. Canada won't allow them to constantly leave and come back or other teams to constantly come in for obvious reasons.

They have a nice arena over there that they use for hockey. The Amalie arena, it used to be called the ice palace.

As I suspected, the Wizards would replace them in the Atlantic Division.

isnt that cases per 1m? i'm not sure the ratio matters as much as the raw number in this case. i could be convinced otherwise though.

The numbers to care about are new cases per 100k residents. Places like Maine have seen a big percentage uptick in cases, but that's because they had a super low number of cases before so 2 per 100k to 6 per 100k is a 200% increase. But it's still comparatively really low.

Right now the worst states are both Dakotas, Iowa, Wyoming, Wisconsin and Nebraska with rates of between 177 and 105 cases per 100k population per day. Florida is actually the 14th lowest state in terms of cases and has a comparatively low rate of increase.

The only state that is currently lower and makes sense logistically (Eastern Time, has arena infrastructure) is NY, particularly Rochester/Buffalo. NY's rate is increasing faster than Florida's though so I'm not sure how much longer they'll be below them in new cases. Overall, the way cases have spiked then receded in different places probably makes it hard to predict where will be having the most problems by the start of the season.

Easy 60 win season for the Raptors.
Plenty of load management days for Lowry, Siakam, etc.

Anyone who knows anything knows that Florida is not where you want to be when it comes to Coronavirus. There is very little mask-wearing or any social distancing/protocols. In parts of the state, it's like the virus doesn't exist.

The list you posted means nothing.

Wow. That makes sense but it's a real change in terms of the schedule. Definitely easier for Toronto avoiding extra games against Brooklyn, Boston and Philly. Could be 3 lottery teams in the southeast.

Fk winter... it sucks big time.

Tampa is best choice... many Canadian snowbirds there and easy direct flights from toronto to Tampa...

No Brainer... for players and fans... great move by Raptors mgmt

Im just saying if they are trying to avoid Covid travel across countries, the best idea wouldnt be sending them to Florida who is the Covid hotbed of the United States.

Its like trying to avoid a sunburn but going on vacation to the Caribbean

Has the league announced/insinuated anything on scheduling breakdown (haven't really been following to closely), are we expecting divisional heavy? In a normal 82 game season divisions really don't mean much schedule wise and so a move like this would be unnecessary

If I'm the raps I love the realignment. Atlantic division could possibly be the best division in the league when the season starts up

Would love that if they flipped divisions. The Southeast is **** outside of Miami.

Florida has no state income tax. I'm sure the players are cheering this possibility. Add in the weather too and they're probably very excited.
