Tanking didnt help us this year LOL but I’m still looking foward to the draft can’t believe it’s finally here
but w/ such a deep draft in 2021, there are 6-7 players who'd likely go #1 next week if they were eligible. Obviously it would be great to be get top 3, but anywhere in the top half of the lottery will be good next year IMO
Idk man anything lower than 6 next year and we are back in the same postion

Bruh we couldn’t even land top 5 with with a bad roster and no shooters wtf makes you think this wouldn’t happen again next year?
look at the teams who finished w/ worse records last year:
Warriors: contender next season
Cavs: just as much young talent (Garland, Sexton, #5) + better vets (Love, Drummond)
Timberwolves: KAT, D'Lo, #1
Hawks: better young talent + they now have Capela, and rumored to be going after Holiday
Pistons: this is the 1 team that I actually think will be worse than the Knicks
if the Knicks roll w/ the young players, add some complimentary vets (stretch-4, vet PG like Augustin) they'd likely be a bottom 5 team, if not bottom 3
especially considering that the season will be 72-games, more division heavy, and the other 4 teams in the Atlantic (Celtics, 76ers, Raptors, Nets) will all be playoff teams, making the season even tougher
I don’t see how that happens unless nobody improved at all and then our vets suck to me this is wishful thinking right now but we will see

In addition to that.
- The offseason will be rushed. No time to develop chemistry.
- Our leftovers players from the past season will be rusty after 9 months without official games,
- There are very few big Free agents in the market and cap space to sign them. The majority of the teams will keep the last season's core. They will start the season with plenty of chemistry.
- Covid related issues will get into training sessions, may suspend games, etc. This must hurt rebuilding teams more deeply. Especially the ones from big cities.
Our playoffs odds are a mirage.

that was 1 of my biggest concerns w/ Thibs b/c he was POBO and probably got used to having his way w/ personnel decisions
will Rose have the cajones to tell Thibs no?

The only time we were able to tank was with Kevin Knox being the number one option. Other teams will implode, lose franchise players to injury, fire coaches etc. I dont see Thibs and co. getting us a bottom 5 record.

That’s all cap though and who said anything about the playoffs???! I damn sure didn’t all I’m saying is that they can win enough games to keep us out the top half of the lottery

It's not a matter of not improving; RJ and Mitch will almost assuredly improve, but the same can be said about young players on other teams. it's moreso who are we beating consistently? what teams are worse? pair that w/ a division heavy schedule, and not a lot is working in their favor
+ I've seen the argument made by some: "Thibs won't allow this team to lose 50 games". but at the end of the day the coach can only do so much, talent is most important. and Thibs did lose 51 games in his 1st season w/ the Wolves, so it does take time
having a new HC in a shortened, division heavy schedule (in a tough division), having not played in 9 months....it'll be an uphill climb

Tank... one more year. Youth movement and then back into a top 5 pick for next year's loaded draft and then go all in with free agency.

Re: 2019-2020 College/Draft thread 13: One week to go
When I heard the name of Thibs, I was against for 2 things:
1) Fearing he would push more winning now moves.
2) Refuse to adapt to the new NBA. Not trying to improve shooting and pacing of the team.
Westbrook would be a stupid win-now move trial by building an anachronic style team with little shooting from deep.
It's twice horrible. Its the wrong way to build a team. And it's too soon to spend assets (three season cap space).

Thibs is just a coach, not a miracle worker. his 1st year w/ the Wolves didn't go so well (finished w/ 6th worst record)
72-game season w/ a division heavy schedule, playing the 76ers, Celtics, Nets, Raptors: all playoff teams
it's certainly possible when you consider most of the teams that finished w/ worse records have better outlooks (check my previous post)
only teams I can see finishing w/ worse records (as of now): Pistons, Hornets, Kings, Grizzlies (depending on JJJ injury), and maybe the Cavs (but they have better vets in Love, Drummond)

Thibs sucks as a gm. But I have a feeling Rose is letting Thibs have a say in roster decisions. Welp
that is why i'm always worried about friendships...because its tough to say f*ck off to a friend. Always believed a GM/President should have a good working relationship with the coach but they have two separate jobs. Its the coaches job to coach the players the GM/President gives them. Thibs can f*ck off with who he wants.
100%
Thibs is the same coach who as POBO drafted Dunn over Murray. not sure I trust his evaluations of players. let the coaches coach and FO people handle personnel
