Not a real contender? They made it to the finals , barring injury I say they would have taken the Lakers to the birnk if healthy. I agree Miami is a contender.
But they are not a good example of building a team. It's was too difficult and they got lucky.

- b) Got a superstar.
- c) Got another really good player with another mid pick who overachieved in his first year.
- d) Got lucky developing 2 undrafted players that overachieved in their first year of serious game time
- e) Traded for good vet help
