They gain some cap flexibility via the trade. Vet min for Matthews and full MLE for Ibaka or Gallo is in play.

Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
Don’t know how to feel about this. Green was a bricklayer for long stretches of the season. He missed sooo many wide open 3s. But he was a good wing defender and still had to be guarded. If this means I don’t have to watch another regular season of Rondo though I might be sold, lol.

Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
Yeah I know everyone likes to dump on Greens shooting but his defense and spacing he provides is still so valuable. The guy knows how to play even if he doesn't make a lot of shots.
Kuzma might be a more talented scorer but he sucks everywhere else 90% of the time.
Really worried how things look next year without Green, Rondo and Bradley. Defensively they lose everything on the perimeter and area basically a completely different team.

I agree in principle, but looking back I don't think Green was regularly closing games himself. It seems like it was usually two of KCP/Caruso/Rondo. And that was with Bradley not going to the bubble at all.

I think they will be fine.
Vogel's system still depends on guards to funnel guys into the bigs.

Not a fan of trading green. Dude had a fairly bad season and still has a pretty positive impact. He’s still one of the better 3 and d players in the league. It really limits the Lakers perimeter defense versatility.
Not a fan of the trade at all.

I'm looking at it more from an opportunity cost. If you are trading 3nD wing, I think you should target someone more impactful. Shroder is just another version of Lou Williams

Yeah, I'm more or less on the same page. Was just messaging similar thoughts to a friend a couple hours ago. I do think Schroder fills a need (especially in the regular season) but would have preferred not to give up a starter to get him.

It isn't like Green was finishing them either
I think Dennis may be able to close out some games, depending on the team
If KCP is back, then you have 3 for sure closers imo
I think AC has shown he can close out vs a lot of teams with his defensive versatility, effort, and high IQ
This is where we need a 3 and d wing if one of Dennis or AC aren't closing
Wes Matthews is similar to DG
Maybe Kuzma is moved?

I don’t think they are looking for a starting wing to replace Green. They probably already have KCP pegged as that guy. Mathews would probably be a fallback if KCP’s price was too high (and they let him walk).
If they keep Bradley, they probably plan on him starting, Schroder replacing Rondo, and using the full MLE to resign their guys (or on someone like Ibaka/ Thompson).
Bradley/ Schroder/ Cook
KCP/ Caruso/ THT
James/ Kuzma
Davis/ Morris/ Dudley
Howard/ McGee
That is a good team, but I am not certain I like it more then the team that just won. Green for all his shooting struggles has been undervalued for what he consistently provided (positive, two way, winning impact).
Schroder will be an upgrade to Rondo in the regular season, but it’s not certain if he will be able to provide the lift that Playoff Rondo did (when it counts).
...
Is it better to resign Howard and Morris, or is it better to go after Ibaka? At this stage in their careers, Ibaka is probably the best of the three, but would he provide more value then both of them?
I say no.
If Howard and Morris can be retained at reasonable cost, I would prefer that the Lakers stick with them.

Re: The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason
Danny Green will turn 34 soon and has been on a gradual decline for years now... He's still a decent role player, but nothing to get worked over about.
With that being said, Schroeder's fit on the current Lakers roster is kind of questionable (Green is definitely a better fit next to guys like Caruso and Rondo), so my guess is this is just the start of a series of moves the Lakers are planning.

Rondo was a negative on d...
Avery will likely be back I think
I like Avery on defense, but mind you he can't guard guys who are too much bigger and sometimes he fouls or gets burnt too much because of his aggressive defense

Could be wrong but I suspect Rondo won't be back.

I wouldn't mind it for our depth, but Wes Matthews isn't a starting 5 guy in my opinion. He's not the shooter Danny Green is (or he doesn't get the same respect as Danny Green does from 3). He's a capable defender though, but we need a real 3&D guy to plug into our starting line-up.
Wes shot a bit over 36% from 3 and is a 38% 3pt shooter, not too far off from DG
Wes is ranked as a better defender in a good amount of adv metrics

He definitely wasn't a negative in the playoffs.
I think chances of Bradley being back are like 20-80.

Kuzma is safe, doesn't make sense to move him without Green in a package

I think Wes Matthews can slot into Green's spot for a fraction of the cost and replicate everything he does (the good and the bad). A little worse against quick guards, a little better against stronger guards/wings

Rondo is most likely gone
As for Caruso, I'm not sure why you think Green is a better fit. That's 2 guards who can't dribble and I always felt that was a pretty big roster flaw

His defense was not very good from a numbers wise on D, huge negative on defense on RAPTOR
From my eye test (very tough to do, especially with no film):
I would still see him get destroyed by screens and cause the defender in a bad 1 on 2 scenario
He was decent at times on ball pressure, especially vs Denver that 1 game where we almost stole the game late, but still lazy on d it seems like and gets crushed by picks
And why a 20-80 for Avery?
