Re: [WOJ]Pistons trade Bruce Brown to Nets...
Brown had another dirt cheap year remaining.
This better not be some type of move to maximize cap space in order to do something stupid like BOTH VanVleet & DeRozan.

Yah cant say I like this move but with the cupboards being bare with our 2nd round picks I expect more of this.
As good as Brown offensively? Brown was a net negative on offense.
He started because our other guys couldn’t guard NBA level guys.
Lol my point exactly. Brown wasn't good offensively. Musa can't be worse.

I kinda liked Brown but he wasn’t that good. I need to see what quality that pick is. They don’t have their own this year.
I don’t get the trade but I’m guessing Weaver likes some guys available in the range of that second rounder.
Second round pick is for 2021 not 2020 lol
Yeah, I also just saw it’s Toronto’s pick per Woj update, which is even worse.
Do not like this move. Agreed on Musa.
UGH!!!
Detroit has LAL's 2nd next season as well.
I guess Troy is trying to corner the market on picks in the mid 50's in the next draft.

To be clear, I don’t like the move but it’s not a catastrophe. I don’t think Brown is a huge loss.
Weaver likely decided he just isn’t what he’s looking for.

Does this mean no Patrick Williams or that Detroit trades expiring Snell for a pick and sin eating?
Musa is high(er) ceiling and very low floor (ie total washout) whereas Brown is low ceiling but high floor (bench player on good team at worst).

2nd tweet is encouraging to me.
As for this trade specifically, I don't mind it. I was not exactly a bruce brown fan, and I think Musa has a higher ceiling

I like the way Brown plays, like his defense. As someone else said, he's a 'Piston' type of player. I also like that he's still on his rookie deal. I wouldn't have looked to move him, necessarily.
All of that being said, he's not a cornerstone player or an indispensable building-block player. I'll wait and see how this unfolds before treating Weaver like SVG.

There’s always the instinct to try and read the tea leaves with a minor move like this. In this case I think it means nothing in terms of larger moves. Musa’s not important enough to impact the plans of a rebuilding team.
Neither for that matter is Brown.

I always liked BBjr. Hes lacking on offense but he plays hard. That said hes not some huge piece of a good team. I wish him all the best.

woj's tweet implies its the first move in potentially a series of similar moves to accumulate picks and future assets

My point was it doesn’t have implications for the fate of more important assets like the pick.
Those players aren’t important enough to influence who goes 7th.
I totally get that a lot of people like Brown, and I totally get why. But he was never going to set the world on fire.

I'm personally not ready to buy that view.
Reason being is, why make this move now? Brown was under control for cheap this season, he would have always been movable for this type of "return." Also the pick they got isn't even in this draft.
What's the urgency to this move 2 days before the season actually starts, if the goal was simply to acquire a crappy 2nd rounder for next season?

After watching highlights (yes I know) I dont hate it. Hes 3 years younger. I get it.
Just trying to build a hard working culture again here but shipped out one of the hardest working one lol.
Hopefully more future assets are coming just not all 2nd rounders. But im expecting more 2nds to come.

Seems sorta like a Bullock for Mykhailiuk trade redux.
Also I could see Detroit trading this SRP to get a late second in this years draft from a team like Philly who has four SRP's this year. Philly has 34, 36, 49, 58 this year. I could see Detroit sending this Toronto 2021 SRP to Philly for #49 this year (or even #58)

As for Musa....dude went 19-78 from 3 this past season. And then 0-6 from 3 in the postseason. That's **** abhorrent. I could do that. He won't be on the team.

Don't like it at all. Not sure what the heck is going on. Brown is cheap and works hard, even if he isn't a starter he's proven he belongs in this league and is going to be a long term rotation player in the NBA. This isn't like us dumping Stanley Johnson for nothing this is like us dumping Aaron Afflalo for nothing.

Not blown away by the return on this move. I felt like we were setting up for a rebuild, feel like this helps that case.
I can’t see judging weaver on this move or adding Patton. But it would be nice to see him get to implement his plan without gores and others interfering.

Re: [WOJ]Pistons trade Bruce Brown to Nets...
Gregg Polinsky was with the Nets when Musa was drafted. Likely scouted him heavily and was involved in the decision to select him in the late first.
https://www.netsdaily.com/2018/7/5/17537644/woj-nets-lose-chief-scout-to-pistons
Seems like Polinsky believed Musa was "lottery pick" level when scouting him. Musa was the second Euro taken in that draft, behind Doncic. Mo Wagner did go 25th OA and ahead of Musa but he was of course US based at Michigan.
In two interviews with an Alabama radio station in April and May, Polinsky laid out the Nets scouting process, starting with a database of 600 players at the beginning of the season, whittling the number down to a handful for Draft Night. In retrospect, Polinsky may have even hinted at the Nets interest in Dzanan Musa and Rodions Kurucs.
“I can’t go into names, but I can talk about the talent there is in Europe,” he told the Tide 102.9 in Tuscaloosa. “In my own opinion ... I think there is two lottery picks there, possibly three, a guy who will be taken in the first two or three or four players in the draft (no doubt referring to Luka Doncic) and another kid there,” his voice trailing off as if he realized he might have said too much.

Again that's Field Goal percentage, not 3pt%. his career 3pt% comes in at a crisp 22.7%
