Nice get for the Nets. Cheap guy who can play rotation minutes especially as you figure they are trading one or more guards this off-season.
I get it for the Pistons too. Brown is a low ceiling, solid floor guy. Musa and the 2nd almost certainly become nothing, but its worth the swing.

Trying to make sense of this from the Pistons' perspective and I'm struggling a bit. A couple of potential motivations here: Bruce is a restricted FA in 2021. Maybe Detroit's new FO has a feeling that he'll be more expensive than what they think he's worth and decided to move on an offer now? We get an extra year of team control with Musa, who's also three years younger than Brown, plus a pick. That's all I've got.

SRP is Toronto's in 2021. So 50+ range.

And that is the upside play. I don't really mind it, but I'm lower on Musa at this point and think if they could have gotten the best 2nd rounder and no Musa I would have done that. Instead it is 2 long shots to be as good as Brown. But I do think Detroit should be going in this direction, and trading everything even what is nailed down. And yes, than means Kennard.

Brown has already shown an NBA skill, defense. This is a steal for BRK.
Musa has some nice tools, but he has shown less than zero in the NBA. His shot selection and general selfishness is reminiscent of that guy you hate to play with at the rec center.

Agree on the direction comment 100% and I'm hoping they can move Kennard for something of value as well.

You tricked me!! Honestly, yeah, that's probably the right move. This needs to finally be a full rebuild. The argument I think you could make for Svi that you couldn't make for Kennard/Brown, he's likely to be more affordable when it comes time to negotiate the next contract and I'd say it's possible/likely he has more trade value in a year or two if he's on, say, a 3y, $18M deal and still shooting the ball well.

Does this signal that the Harden-Nets trade may be happening?

I’m surprised by the trade. Good is a good young rotational piece. I didn’t see him as a starter but a solids defender who can give you a good 20-25 minutes a night with ball handling ability. A low second rounder just seemed light to me. My guess is Weaver was not high on him.

I thought Brown was supposed to be pretty good defensively... why move him? Do they have a deal to somehow get a higher pick and into the Edwards pick range?

I think people are trying to read too much into it.
Weaver didn't see Brown as a viable piece moving forward and decided to move him for some sort of asset. I don't think a more complex explanation is required.
It's surprising to some, but the truth is Brown was a clear net negative on offense. By some measures he isn't even replacement level on that side of the ball. He started for the Pistons because he was one of our few guys who could effectively defend at an NBA level, and it's not like he's elite in that regard either.
This ain't that deep.

One thing I think should be singled out that you brought up: Bruce is often regarded as this big time defensive stopper, and that's simply not the case. He's a good defender and he's got the physical attributes to be elite, and guard from 1-3, but he's not elite yet. Good point.

Sounds like someone the Cavs could've used since they are pretty good at developing people's shot, if he's even just good on defense and they can teach him to hit 3's at 35% then it's a win/win. Oh well.

I wouldn't necessarily make that leap. Brooklyn needs cheap depth *anyway*; they're about to get kicked in the face by luxury tax and they still have to re-sign Harris. This made sense no matter what else the Nets do or don't do.
I wonder if Garrett Temple (team option) is sweating a little more heavily right now though.
