A few things:

1. We desperately need better passers on this team IMO and he's among the best in the league.
2. Allows us to play Giannis off-ball more and set him up for easier baskets.
3. He's someone that we can feel safe putting the ball in his hands that he'll make good decisions/take care of the ball.
4. He's sadly probably a better shooter than Bledsoe.
5. All of that while also being a good defender (obviously not Bledsoe level, but good nonetheless).

I don't disagree with any of this - maybe with #4, but not enough to debate - but this is in a vacuum. Getting Rubio on its own will do next-to-nothing for us, especially with what Presti would likely take from us. In concert with other deals then I might be on board.

From what I had heard he might be available for just expirings.

All his points are good, even the shooting but with the caveat that he's better spot up shooter and only really takes wide open looks.

What he's really good at is controlling the pace and flow of a game. He has a good feel for when a guy needs a look or when things are getting on tilt and you need to settle down and run a good play.

I was a Rubio doubter who really appreciated him more after watching him more last year.

Rubio does have his warts, but for the most part he’s a very talented floor general. I would gladly give him a shot. Defensively he’s no slouch either

I wouldn't even call myself a Rubio doubter. I was on-board to go after him several years ago. He just doesn't fill the biggest gaps we have toward a championship right now, IMO. He does not take over a playoff game or act as someone we can go-to down the stretch. He does not break down a defender to score at the rim. He does not move the needle on shooting.

Maybe he helps us enough with all of those things by enabling our current roster with what he is good at. I dunno. I'm skeptical. Just sure hope, if we went that route, it would be in concert with some other move(s) as I mentioned.

Rubio isn't enough of a threat with the ball in his hands in the halfcourt to really make a difference, in my opinion. Defenders still drop low in pick and rolls because he's not much of a threat.

Without a true #2 start we need as many above average role players as possible. We desperately need more creativity on offense and could help in that regard. Bledsoe/Rubio/Hill/DDV gives us a lot of flexibility.

Is Ersan+ Rolo +#24 enough salary?

Apparently CP3 forced his way to PHX last week. OKC wanted to send him where he wanted to go, as long as they got something. Who knows what better offers they had to turn down.

I dont think Rubio makes a huge difference but give me Rubio for Rolo, DJ, + Ersan all day. OKC might due it just to save the money? I would be reluctant to throw in #24 obviously, but there might be some in between ground.

Yeah now it depends on what other moves are available were those expirings would need to be used.

But yes in a vacuum if the choice was those guys being on the roster next year or Rubio give me Ricky.

What does CP3 do for PHX's playoff chances? Unless they make another big move, they're fighting for the 8th spot.

They're expected to make a major splash in free agency as well as one of the few teams in the league with significant cap space.

Edit: Never mind (sort of), sounds like they'll be pushing the trade through immediately so that they don't have any cap space but can match offers on Saric and use the MLE.

There's not really anyone to make a major splash with, though.

If it weren't Presti I would be suspicious that the Thunder could extract yet another first round pick for Rubio.

Not sure if the Bucks would actually trade #24 for Rubio.

But I certainly could see more than just Schroder coming up while Horst was "deep in trade negotiations last week" with Presti, for better or worse.

Sarver would put a banner up for an 8th seed.

Not interested in Rubio, I don't think he's really much of an upgrade over Bledsoe. For cheap where we keep Bledsoe IDK maybe, depends on what the deal is.
