Say the Rockets need to continue to "win now" since they're in the hole for picks to OKC. What about this package?

Rockets trade:
SG James Harden
SG Eric Gordon
PF PJ Tucker

Sixers trade:
C Al Horford
PF Tobias Harris
SG Matisse Thybulle
SG Shake Milton
2021 #21, #34, #36, #49, #58
2023, 2025 PHI 1st Round Pick swaps
2022, 2024, 2026 PHI 1st Round Picks unprotected

https://tradenba.com/trades/ArseNOYWH
The salaries are basically a wash ($66m going both ways).

Rockets lineup:
PG Westbrook | Rivers
SG Milton | Thybulle
SF Covington | House
PF Harris
CE Horford
Plus: #21, #34, #36, #49, and #57 in the 2020 draft.

I can see this Rockets team winning ~ 50 games and making the playoffs. Which could be important to them since they owe picks to OKC. Plus they've now made up their massive pick deficit.

I love how Ben is a hard no for this trade as if a James Harden-Joel Embiid PnR won't account for 70% of our points and the two of them will cover the other 30% at the line (both 80% free throw shooters shooting a combined 20.3 FTA last season). Obviously exaggerating, but this would be the closest thing to an unstoppable duo in the league.

I agree that Houston will want to make the playoffs while having draft assets to rebuild. I think this trade makes much more sense than any Levert - Allen - Dinwiddie trade. My guess is Westbrook would want out though as well.

Do itttt
Lol why all of that. You can do it just for Simmons and picks or Simmons and Al. Not giving jrich and Shake. You want Jo mad that two of his best friends are gone again?

is there a path to get harden+ embiid, and get rid of horford and tobias? That would be the dream.

You always can get a third star VIA Fa with that duo, pretty sure about that.

If Ben was on the roster with Harden and Embiid, what would be his role in the offense?

the same it is now... clogging the lane for everyone else and missing contested layups and avoiding the FT line

If what fl311 is saying is true, that the focus has been on Horford for Hield, I'm not entirely convinced the front office has its eyes set on Harden.

I'd love to flip Tobias for someone like Otto Porter, but that's probably unrealistic.

Horford, OTOH, fits exceptionally well with Harden. I'd keep him around even though he's ridiculously overpaid.

No it's not. Houston has the leverage here. Harden is one of the best players in the league and he's under contract. They're under no obligation to trade him to either of his preferred destination if they don't get an satisfactory offer.

But mostly, the player that wants out gets out, no?

I really cannot think about a star player that publically demanded a trade and didn't get traded.

Probably there are examples, but mostly the player gets out.

Why not? A Harden deal isn't going to involve Horford and Hield is a perfect offensive fit with Harden

I think you'd see a lot of Harden and Simmons PnR. If they double Harden off it then Simmons is getting the ball just above the foul line in a 4 on 3 situation to attack and if they don't double Harden then he's probably getting an open shot or a mismatch to take advantage of.

I love the idea of Joel and Harden too but I don't think Joel has looked consistently great as a roll man during his career so I can see Ben getting a lot of opportunities in that situation if they somehow got a deal down without including Ben.

That's fine. I'm not saying he won't get a trade. If he wants one, he'll get it. But Houston isn't in a position where they'll have to take a putrid Nets deal or a deal from us without Ben.

Houston is in a good position. They can let the market come to them and play them against each other.

Harden did the work for them, they can play 'hard to get' to maximize the return.
