My first reaction to Robin opting out: This makes the hard cap in S&T deals way less threatening.

If it's to get more money then he should probably fire his agent though. Wouldn't be surprised if he's working in lockstep with Horst and taking less money next season with extra years or something. Kinda hope he is just gone though, as much as I do enjoy him.

What does this mean for Ersan? Is it better to keep him for trade scenarios or cut him loose?

Welcome PJ tucker. Nice complement to brook who can't close on stretch 5s.

Wow alright.

Do you blame him? Hey Robin come back and pick up your option , you’ll play all year but come the playoffs we will just have you lay on the ground and watch.

Ersan's bank account really likes that opt out.

Robin declining that option is pretty surprising - screws us on trade scenarios now.

This is exactly what I was going to ask. Do we need his contract to make certain deals, or does it make more sense to cut him loose?

Three theories as to why Robin would opt out:

1. He wanted more playing time than the roughly 0 he got in the playoffs for us. Probably the most likely reason.
2. He knew he was potentially a trade chip and would rather have the power in his own hands about who he plays for than opting in and then seeing where Horst sends him.
3. He knows Brook is on the chopping block and doesn't want to be here if Brook is gone.

4. He's joining the WWE.

Robin must have interest somewhere else he thinks he'll get more minutes and comparable money (maybe with another year guaranteed).

From the Bucks' perspective, that financial flexibility is real nice, but it does remove one of the few easily-tradeable salary slots we have.

Suspect it's less a surprise to Horst though as opposed to us RealGMers doing our best to come up with trade scenarios with limited info.

4. He wants more stability from a longer contract than a one year deal.

What would I be blaming him for? Giving our team 5 million dollars back?

Would make sense if Brook is getting traded

Definitely not now. There will be plenty of options for a backup center that Bucks can pursue later.
