I like Terry too but at #17 Precious Achiuwa looks really good as a nice fit at PF. I like Nesmith too.

Precious would be a fine pick at 17 and probably gone sooner.

Wolves Now Expected To Select Anthony Edwards If They Stay At No. 1

Last week, ESPN reported most NBA teams were working under the assumption the Minnesota Timberwolves would select LaMelo Ball if they kept top overall pick. The sense most teams are now getting with the draft two days away, per ESPN, are the Wolves will select Anthony Edwards.

The Wolves have sent strong signals of interest for Edwards, Ball and also James Wiseman, perhaps in an attempt to trade the ick.

Ball and Wiseman would have some positional overlap with Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell.

Via Jonathan Givony/ESPN

Rosas has done a good job of masking his intent. Over the last couple of weeks rumors of the Wolves "choice" has switched repeatedly through all of Edwards, Ball, and Wiseman. At this point I don't put much stock in the current rumored favorite.

I really do appreciate it that Rosas has done a great job not tipping his hand.

Givony is a talent analyst with agent connections. Naturally, he wouldn't have direct insight into who the Minnesota Timberwolves are drafting; that does not discredit his talent analysis.

We know he is a great athlete and can defend, but can he shoot and pass?

I find your lack of mock drafts disturbing, Wolves board.

(Or was that just an early aughts thing and we're all over it now?)

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30300355/nba-draft-2020-no-1-pick-timberwolves-see-opportunity-pressure

As you know I'm not a big ESPN guy, but there are a lot of direct quotes from our front office in this piece.

This one really stood out, from Robby Sikka, VP of performance and technology:
"I think it's much easier to predict failure than it is to predict success," Sikka says.
"Our goal, in many cases, is to eliminate people on the basis of failure characteristics"

"As opposed to saying someone is going to be great, I would just like to be able to predict that [a player] is more likely to not be good."

Interesting insight into emphasis on eliminating the "bust factor".
I wonder how this tilts the playing field for guys like Lamelo, Wiseman, and Edwards.
Wiseman has a sample size problem, and Edwards and Lamelo have some seriously bad metrics.

I will say Precious' jumper does look smooth.

It is a very pretty looking shot. If you just showed me video of his shot without the results I would guess that most of them went in the basket.

All of the sudden I am pretty confident that we can find a solid PF/SF at #17 and #33.

#17

Precious Achiuwa
Xavier Tillman
Saddiq Bey

#33
Robert Woodard
Tyler Bey
Paul Reed
Jordan Nwora
Howard Cosell

Still perplexed as to why Reed is mocked so much lower than Precious - both high level defenders with offensive questionmarks. Precious might deserve a slightly higher ranking, but I'd rather pay 33 for Reed than 17 for Precious.

Precious seems more coordinated, more fluid athlete to me. Plus his shot looks more natural. But I agree that Precious is more about potential than actual skills.

Look up Reggie Perry he would be fantastic at 33. He was the US under 19 mvp last summer over Cade Cunningham.
I know Woodard has a 7’2 wingspan but from watching Mississippi state last season it was very clear who the much better basketball player and athlete was and it was Perry.

If people are online now, I hear Gersson Rosas and LaMelo Ball about to be interviewed on ESPN “The Jump”
