I don't think trading our most entertaining player is necessarily a good idea

Who peed in your cornflakes bro? Have a little positivity.

I'm not even being negative. I just don't run on hopium anymore. Miles should be better - and no one in their right mind is looking forward to contract negotiations with the guy. Especially considering how this team literally overpaid 1 through 5 before.

Some guys don't get better either. Some get worse. And the thing is, even if Miles does figure it out and put up a 17/7 year or something that still puts him in Thad Young territory. How much is the best version of Miles Bridges even worth?

Another valid argument. Some people love watching this guy dunk. Hes capable of dropping a dunk on a head almost every game. Its only been 2 years and the season ended when he was heating up.

You are panicking bro, he is only 2 years into his career. He doesn’t get paid until after year 4 or 5. You know how many teams would of screwed with this sort of thinking.

Jmac is exactly right! Bridges can be Caron butler/Marion. Prime level.

How is saying Bridges has been bad, stagnated, and needs to play significantly better panicking?

He spent most of the year as one of the worst wings in the league

Who do you think is a realistic good comparison for him to put up similar numbers to that you would be happy with?

There is no good comparison really because tweeners with that particular frame have an uphill battle their entire career. They either pack on weight and become interior workhorses - or lose weight and learn how to dribble/facilitate. Even before the physical decision gets made, those are two things that Miles isn't about. He's not the kind of guy to bang under the rim and live off of his second jump and he can't even get a dribble hand off right let alone run some high pick and roll option or play well from the outside....

You'll be hard pressed to find anyone 6-6, 225 with Miles' body type that's taken anything more than a specialist role.

The only guys close to that height/weight have frames that are nothing like his - and the differences in play are vast. I mentioned Thad Young earlier because that's where he's trending towards. Just smaller and happier to throw up a 3.

Don’t the advance stats suggest he’s one of our better defenders?

The coaches sure think he is.

I thinked they also used him as a lock down defender on their best player, as it allowed him to concentrate on 1 dude and worry less about team defence.

find another 6'6, 225 in the nba guy built like miles. there's almost none - and there's a reason for that.

I wasn’t looking for a guy that looks like him, I’m asking who is a wing player that you expect him to match roles or production with realistically meaning are you wanting him to be Jaylen Brown? Joe Ingles? What would he need to do for him to be worth the 12th overall pick after 2 years in the league?

What is net rating? Are you talking about win shares? VORP? Box score plus minus?

Those guys are built nothing like him, which is my point. He's physically in no man's land and there's no game for anyone to grow into there. Ingles is lankier and never relied on his athleticism while being crafty his entire career and Jaylen Brown is by far more lean. He's not built like any of those guys. And there's no other current player getting his kind of minutes with the same set of problems.

He can't develop further unless he either commits to putting on weight or losing it.

As is, he'd have to make a huge leap to even be as good as OG Anouby. I've already said smaller Thad Young who is happy to shoot 3s. Thad's numbers changed as soon as his team's stopped treating him like a free run project player and transitioned into serious expectations. At the same age, they were near identical.

and net rtg ~ https://www.pivotanalysis.com/post/net-rating you can go from this right onto nba.com's advanced stats and follow up there
real plus/minus: http://www.espn.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/page/3/position/5 and this is after a late season surge brought him up from 2nd to last
simple rating: 82 games has been a solid resource for years when it comes to lineup information along with positional stuff ~ http://www.82games.com/1920/1920CHA.HTM

all sites collect advanced stats differently, but the story stays more or less consistent though

If you’re saying you hope he becomes OG then I don’t really get that. OG is older, had a far less impressive first two years in the league. Still only shot 3.3 nba threes last year (his best attribute on offense) meaning he is only shooting when the defense forces him to compared to Miles shooting 4.6 threes a game.

OG also averages less free throws per game, less points, less rebounds, less assists, a worse free throw shooter. I’m sure advanced stats like OG more but he also played on a better team which sometimes helps these stats look better than they should.

If you played for a bad team Hawks/Knicks last year pretty much all advanced stats hate you.

Put OG on a bad team where he has to do more than stand in the corner and shoot wide open threes and his efficiency numbers take a huge drop.

because "i wish he would just play like ______" doesn't work with guys who don't physically line up with any other successful players. again, its no man's land.

and you don't end up near -10 across the board on 30 minutes a night on a bad team if you've got a single starter level quality

also, you can't just slap on 17/7 to that kind of player and he's magically good - every time he steps on the court, our team gets substantially worse by every meaningful metric. the bar has always been low with him. he just needed to be better than the ghost of marvin williams. the best version of miles doesn't punish the team who plays him. i don't think anybody is asking for unreasonable things out of the guy. you're quoting a post that said i'd even be happy to see OG Anouby level play out of him too.

and actually check out some of those descriptions and resources - the pivotanalysis site in particular is solid

I know I am beating a dead horse here but go team by team and look at what guys who play 25-30 minutes a night for nba teams put up for stats/averages.

Royce O’Neal plays 29 mins and avg 6.3 ppg
Joe ingles plays 33 mins avg 9.8 ppg
OG plays 30 mins avg 10.6 ppg
Josh Okogie 25 mins avg 8.6 ppg
Marcus Morris 29 mins avg 10.1 ppg
Mikal Bridges 28 mins avg 9.1 ppg
Daniel house 30 mins avg 10.5 ppg
Tony Snell 28 mins 8 ppg
Cedi Osman 30 mins 11 ppg
Jon Issac 29 mins 11.9 ppg
Dorian Finney Smith 30 mins 9.5 pp
Josh Hart 27 mins 10.1 ppg

Miles Bridges 30 mins 13 ppg

I know ppg isn’t the best stat, but I’m just showing what type of nba players get 30 mins a game in the league on the wing. You really think Bridges is failing putting up these stats?

Oh and he is 22 years old compared to a lot of these guys in their NBA prime

I also think the right move is to keep him around for next year to see if he makes any improvement

That said, he's kind of a meh dude so far. Not really a needle mover, not really someone you can depend on to get a bucket with regularity, so there's no real long term future for him on the Hornets as currently constructed.

Either he or PJ will have to be replaced with a higher level scorer at some point, and PJ is showing much higher potential already so selling (as) high (as possible) on Bridges may be the best play

No **** clue why y'all are arguing over him so much
