This is actually a really good trade for both teams IMO. Thunder needed youth and a capable SF. Suns needed veteran leadership if not also better shooting from the PG position.
Thunder already have youth and a capable small forward(s) in Bazley and Roby. Trade makes way more sense for the Suns. I wonder if Paul forced his way to PHO because otherwise I am having a really tough time understanding why OKC took back scrubs and salary when they certainly should have been able to get better offers.
Paul's contract is a real challenge it is so much money that you have to be a cap space team to even think about taking on 40+ mil for the next two years. I am all about getting the best player in the trade but in this instance OKC wasn't winning a title with CP3 so the fact that Oubre and Rubio aren't going to win OKC a title they are likely to continue this trend of playing well in OKC and becoming bigger trade assets. That said Oubre is only 24. I do think it is funny that OKC was fine with '22 pick which Paul will likely be toast by then.
