Damn Horst and Team Giannis. That is really getting raked over the coals. They were myopic on getting Jrue and NOR took advantage by having no protections on those 1sts

Bucks must regret not making a bigger offer for Holiday while we were in the midst of the Mirotic talks.
Pelicans were in a different place then but if we would have offered a fraction of the picks we just traded we probably could have gotten him.

And the scary thing is those picks were in the teens...the picks we are trading will be up near 30....should be fine based on our lack of success with much better picks in the past

Why wouldn't that Cavs get the '21 pick? As long as the Bucks wait until the draft to make this official, this year's pick is not a "future" pick and therefore sending next year's pick to Cleveland should be allowed. By acquiring pick #24 from Indy, the Bucks made that '21 pick eligible to be conveyed.
I can't believe they had to give up '25 and '27 unprotected. That's an awful value for Jrue. Just awful. It's not like Hill and Bledsoe are salary dumps ffs.

We keep 21, 23, and 24 and give out the 22. We have our first rounder in three of the next 4 drafts.

I like Jrue Holiday, but can also objectively say this was a massive overpay by the Bucks. Feels like Horst dug in too deep and didn’t know how to say no.

Re: Bucks acquire Jrue Holiday
I'll be the 30th guy to say, this deal was a huge gamble but completely worth it if this is what Giannis wanted.
Our starting 5 is very well constructed for the Budenholzer system. Now Holst and cronies will earn their money developing two way guys and second rounders to fill the end of the bench.
How weird, that I smiled upon learning we landed two second rounders! Can't wait till Wednesday night, when the commentators are basically tired of talking and the deputy commish is announcing picks, and I'm scrolling frantically to find Eummuney, Diesel, and Swanson's opinion of some guy I have never heard of. Seriously, I am looking forward to that.

Giannis must have seriously not wanted to play with CP3.

Re: Bucks acquire Jrue Holiday
If Giannis says he wants Jrue, two other teams and bidding for Jrue and future picks are his price, you pay it. Giannis staying with this franchise and keeping us relevant and in title contention rely on getting a deal like the Jrue one done. Absolute no brainer, they may all end up picks in the 20s and no pick swaps. Great show of faith to Giannis that we held up our end

The Pelicans knew the spot we were in and took full advantage. Horst was in a tough situation (some of it his own doing), I think we have to acknowledge that. He can play hardball but it sounds like the Sixers and Celtics were making serious competing offers. I can't honestly say digging in and risking Jrue going elsewhere would've been correct either.

Re: Bucks acquire Jrue Holiday
I hate giving unprotected picks as a rule, but this trade will only become poor if the Bucks don't win a title (or two) and those picks end up high because of injury and/or Giannis leaving. If they end up in the 25-30 range, well, Horst needs to be able to find comparable impact to those types of players for low cost. The overall impact of that range is pretty low.
Also, assuming Giannis reups, the 2025 unprotected is during his time here, so theoretically the chances of that being high without injury are low. The 2027 unprotected is the one that is most unknown right now, as the Giannis supermax would go through 2025-26 season.

Ron Swanson wrote:Yikes. Better win a championship in the next 2-3 years I guess. Completely unprotected 1st's when Giannis will be 30-32 years old is not.....ideal.
And that is being optimistic that Giannis is here for the last pick. We literally will be a shell of ourselves at that point with no assets or room. Why would 31 year-old Giannis resign unless he has Dirk level loyalty.

Hearing human existence will be mostly wiped out no later than 2024, so not too worried about those bareback firsts.

Yes, have protections just in case Giannis gets hurt or the whole supporting cast gets old and useless at the same time. Then just hope you're good for 5 years and the protections don't kick in so it's just picks in the 20's in 2023 and 2025. That's the best-case scenario. I am still supremely worried about that '25 pick though. Personally I think Bledsoe, Hill, and #24 should have been enough. The news that there was a bidding war supports my initial reaction that this was a very steep price.
lol, now we can worry. This has Darko on steroids written all over it. Like I'm glad I will be also 40 at that point and can shrug it off as 'we had a good run', but there good be a very dark period in the late 2020's
