Re: 3 free agent destinations for Gordon Hayward
Addendum.
It makes practically zero sense for Hayward to do any favors to the Celtics that would somehow benefit what is likely to be one of his major competitors at that point that the Hawks might become contenders.
And Hayward holds all the cards here.
I did say "practically." There is one and only one way that it makes sense, and that is if a 5th year is put on the table (which obviously would be something a 30 year old would have to get giddy about).
Hard to imagine that could be the case. Not impossible, of course, but highly improbable.
It, to me, is highly improbable then that there would be any trade mechanism to the transaction.
Here's the other misnomer about Hayward that probably needs to be quashed... he's likely going to get minutes at both SF and PF... at least, that's how he's been used in Boston most recently.
So, any talk about him gumming up the situation on the wings seems to not actually be well-grounded.

Re: 3 free agent destinations for Gordon Hayward
Addendum to that previous addendum... the remark about his playing SF and PF most extensively notwithstanding, he actually ends up as the primary ballhandler quite a bit, which prescribes that when Trae isn't on the court, it makes it less necessary to bring back a Teague or sign a dependable 2nd PG. Less necessary, but I'd still prefer it, b/c you just have to accept redundant roles on the roster if you're going to put serious cap space toward someone whose injury history has been so extensive of-late.

Gordon Hayward is a walking injury. I want no part of him.

He's not getting $35m X 4 years.
But if he gets $20-$25m X 4 years (not entirely out of the question), I'm not really sure why the escrow is especially important to the equation. Maybe someone would care to correct my thinking, but I don't really see it.

Allow me please to walk this back somewhat.
That's because Ainge could conceivably tempt Schlenk with some benefits.
Obviously, there's the 1st round picks this year that could be put in play.
Then, there's BOS's 2021 1st round pick, which could be put in play, and some have speculated Schlenk is infatuated with gaining a second 2021 slot--not that the speculation is necessarily reliable, but otoh, it's not really difficult to imagine that would be the case.
Then, there's also the possibility that BOS could tolerate taking Dedmon's $13.3m off the books. In so doing, Schlenk might be able to justify paying Gordon his $34m w/o hazard to his other plans, since the net debit on the payroll would be about $21m.

I really can't seem he not accepting it unless he wants to leave a lot of money on the table and is just not happy. His wife will probably have the final say but that's ok.
They can discuss it over dinner tonight, argue about it, she can give him more time restrictions playing video games. That's all

Growing but totally uninformed sense on my part that we're being used as leverage by Hayward at this moment, and ultimately if Ainge meets his price, he'll stay in BOS.

Gordon Hayward is trash. If they say Westbrook and Oladipo have no trade value, how in the world does this guy. Nothing but Brad Stevens pet. Stay with Boston you deserve it.

So, perhaps there is cause for optimism?
