Re: Blazers trade for Robert Covington
with covington addition and with healthy nurk, collins & hood, blazers might sneak into top 4 in the western conference, but im wondering if the blazers will go all-in in the next two years, will they courage to do it
however, i expect another move or two

Dont' know much about him. He seems like a younger Ariza, and Ariza did help the team, but is turning 36. I think we all noticed how Ariza would have helped us in the playoffs. Covington plays all 3 positions in the front court.
I think he's going to start at PF for us because Collins is just not cutting it.

I would love to get Enes Kanter back. He was so great coming off the bench for Nurk and did great for us in that playoff run.

Be honest - how many people were cool with CJ for Covington in the past?
People shi- on Olshey, but I honestly believe he has been making solid - not spectacular, but solid moves post Paul Allen. Love Paul but feel his involvement forced win-now moves.
You mean like this one. This is a win now move. 2 first round picks for Covington isn't cheap. It depends on the protection. If the 2nd 1st is as good as the first one, it's not cheap. But, we do get a player that will contribute right now.
The over/under on whether this move was worth it is the #6 seed.
Without the trade, the Blazers still could have competed for #7 or #8.
So does the trade elevate the team's seeding?

Good trade if pick is fairly protected. Cov has 2 years left?

Not sure if any of you guys seen this here or even care at this point, but it's from a very reliable source and interesting to say the least.
I know some of you guys might actually prefer Roco to Gordon so this may be a blessing in disguise.

I've been higher on Gordon than most, but I've been pretty disappointed in his development thus far in his career. Seems like Orlando has given him a ton of opportunities to be "the guy" and he has yet to progress past a 15/7 level player. Not bad, just expected better with his physical talents. Maybe a new start and system could have helped his career, but overall, I think Covington will be a better fit right now for what the Blazers are doing. Covington is unquestionably a better defender than Gordon.

Much more likely a made-up story than a blessing.

I have been a strong advocate of acquiring both Gordon and Covington and would have been happy with either. Thrilled we were able to get Covington for what it cost us.Magic_Johnny12 wrote:Not sure if any of you guys seen this here or even care at this point, but it's from a very reliable source and interesting to say the least.

Gordon is a guy whom I feel would excel in a more defined role than what he's had in Orlando. Too bad we no longer have a combination of contracts nor the assets with which to pursue him as I can't see Olshey parting with CJ to make it happen and bridging the value gap between the two is hard.

There are valid reasons why Orlando is in the lottery year after year...

Collins is better and we already have him.

Covington is versatile, long, and under contract for a bit. We gave up role players and gained a guy who could start on any team. Win

Re: Blazers trade for Robert Covington
you mean besides the past two seasons? I'm actually surprised they've done as well as they considering they have never had a half decent PG since AG has been there and he brings the ball up way more than any coach would like to see. That said that particular skillset would be welcome as a counter to teams doubling Dame at half court.Norm2953 wrote:There are valid reasons why Orlando is in the lottery year after year...
Put AG in a clear role where he can focus on his strengths and he would become much more efficient and effective. There aren't many guys in the league with his varied offensive skillset who also have the size and athleticism to guard LeBron or Giannis.

That's cool, but she's wrong. Magic and Bucks played in Round 1 of the Bubble.

Maybe she thinks the bubble games don't count for its not like a team that finished under .500 is a
legit playoff team compared to other seasons.

Re: Blazers trade for Robert Covington
how about since boston is willing to give up 3 1st rd picks with hayward, say we trade cj to boston for the same deal ?
dame
trent
hayward
roco
nurk
fill in bench but a more rounded starting unit.

Re: Blazers trade for Robert Covington
CJ isnt going to return three 1st round picks though. I like Trent Jr, but I'm not ready to hand h the starting spot. I'd like to see a bit more of him first. The sample size so far is nice, but still fairly small.

Jaynes reporting that the 2021 pick is lottery protected through 2027. Becomes a 2nd after that.

Re: Blazers trade for Robert Covington
even if it was straight across i'de do cj for hayward. i would like multiple players who can bring the ball up and the size and defense of trent would make up for inexperience.
teams like
warriors, miami, lakers, boston, clips, toronto(had) all have more than 1-2 ppl push the ball up.
to me cj is just a short iso shooting guard than cant play defense and looks for the open man too late and it cost the team possessions
