Im not sure the point trying to be made here. That politics wasnt the main thing that hurt the ratings? Okay. NBA ratings prior to the bubble were horrible. While the NFL on the other hand is cruising right along, after a rocky start, at the midway point of the season they were only down 6% from last year and have been seeing a recent uptick. Then add in for the previous election years they saw a double digit % drop, a 6% drop during a very heated election year doesnt look bad at all.

The NBA needs to figure out why the NFL has had very little loss, while they just had their biggest star on their most well known team and they had all time low ratings. The NFL is showing its possible.

Nfl had no change in the days, times and season that their games were on. It wasnt interrupted like the nba.

The Masters moved the start times up on Sunday. Dustin Johnson teed off at 6:30am pacific time to beat the NFL and weather. By the time the west coast woke up, lets say 9am, Dustin pretty much had it in the bag the way he was playing. That probably makes a difference in ratings. How was it the first day? I honestly dont know but I bet It was one of ESPN bigger audiences recently.

NFL is 1x a week, less politics since they stopped kneeling (their ratings did go down during the Kap kneeling era), FFB is huge even if youre not a fan of any particular team...just my opinion tho

Doesn't the masters typically fall in-between March Madness and the start if the NBA/NHL playoffs? A kind of quiet time in the sports calendar as opposed to competing with NFL and college football.

Its nothing compared to 50+% for its biggest games with its biggest stars. Also in that article, it points out that seeing a drop in TV ratings in an election year is normal and expected, the last time during an election year they saw a 14% decline in ratings. So ya half the drop than last time for an election year, the next biggest sport seeing a 50+% for its championship with its biggest star on its biggest team. Ya I would say a 6% drop isnt bad.

March Madness is done, NBA Playoffs haven't started, but yea, it happens at the start of the NHL playoffs.

I know myself and many others who stopped watching golf after it was politicized. I don't want politics in my golf and with this ratings drop they'll know we mean business. Lol

I don't think timing is a legitimate reason. Yes, going up against the NFL made a difference, but it shouldn't have made that big of a difference. The NBA was delayed 4 months due to a pandemic, not a voluntarily stoppage of play, so I doubt the timing impacted anything because fans were without all sports during that time. The reason the NBA decline is a bigger deal compared to other sports is because their popularity in the US is far greater. The fact that the NBA Finals and World Series were played 2 weeks apart from each other, and the World Series drew 30% higher ratings on average is a pretty big deal. If the Super Bowl had to be delayed and went up against the World Series or NBA Finals, it would smoke both of them whether it took place in February or June or October.
