at this point it doesn't sound like it.

No reason for him to ask to extend the option unless staying is very much on the table. I think this situation is that he is rightly very worried that if opts in Ainge is going to trade him. The guy has a family that he is very focused on.

You can get a Marcus Smart type bench player in other ways. You don’t give up a top 3 pick for hustle defenders off the bench.

Only way we get into top 3 is Hayward/14/26/30 for Wiggins/2

Obviously Hayward can opt in at any time but until he does he can't be traded. I think what has happened is that Boston and Hayward have not agreed on an extension and Hayward would just assume opt in to his deal and discuss it further during FA. But he is rightly concerned that if he opted in yesterday he could be packaged off to wherever without any say in it. So Boston did him a huge favor but letting him get to Thursday with a chance of just taking his 34 mil still intact. The chance of an impulsive draft day trade comes off the table. Doesn't mean the minute Hayward opts he isn't going to be dealt or that if he opts out he can't resign just gets him to the other side and the new league year.

I think Hayward doesn’t have a solid free agent market and he wants to keep his $34 million. Gave the Celtics time to find a deal. Free agent offers for Gordon Hayward are not what he is looking for and just wants to go to a team to prove his worth for 1 year and keep his $34 million

For the most part, Smart has shown that he shoots far less when the team is fully healthy.

But that is doing it to yourself. Last year you lost Irving and Horford and signed Walker. Sure it wasn't the six other trades that everyone decided Ainge was in on but we need to realize that Boston isn't really in on every single deal in the NBA. We are still going on and on about Harden when the only real info is that we aren't interested.

We have Hayward S&T talk with ATL, a team that has almost 50 mil in cap space it makes no sense.

Boston should be trying trade up in the draft they don't need 3 rookies.
