I heard a rumor of the Hawks trading the 6 pick for Jarrett Culver and the #17 pick.
What would be the thoughts of doing that deal and targeting SG Tyrese Maxey that plays strong on and off ball defense?
Culver struggled offensively, but his defense remained solid in his rookie season.

It's not a terrible idea, as J Culver would likely be a top-10 pick in this year's draft.
Maxey is a worthy draft candidate as well -- though he is unlikely to still be on the board as late as #17. We'd likely be deciding between RJ Hampton, Desmond Bane, Zeke Nnaji in that range.

Would feel like a trade for the sake of trading and be a very underwhelming considering all the other, more fruitful decisions we could make with the 6th. It would basically feel like trading out of the draft completely with how top heavy this class is.

From The Athletic:
Code: Select all
Conversations between Minnesota on a package of Jarrett Culver and No. 17 for No. 6 have stalled, and there has been no dialogue as of late. On Minnesota’s side, the Wolves have grown hesitant about parting with Culver. If this deal were to be completed, the Wolves would have picks Nos. 1 and 6. It could be the start of an interesting trade package.
If Culver and No. 17 were back on the table, I’m told the Hawks would consider it.
