Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
Will the Pistons draft 7th or make a trade and what's the trade?
Pistons stay at 7 -- Please dont trade up
Who do you want the Pistons to draft within reason (Ball isn't dropping to 7 for example)?
Hayes, Okongwu?
Who do you not want the Pistons to draft?
Toppin, Haliburton -- no upside and this team will be bad for 2 more years unless Sekou meets all his potential (possible)
Who will the Pistons take? (Give a sleeper too)
Hayes , sleeper is Nesmith I think he can play.

Nice.
Mine is Tony Snell to New Orleans for Eric Bledsoe, 24th this year, and Lakers 1st in 2021.

I will be happy with Hayes or Halliburton most. Some hope in the backcourt is really necessary; its been so devoid of a decent young playmaker for so long and they have .
I'll be fine with Willians if that is what it is but his offensive value is gonna require another true project when they just took one last year.
What will make me upset it trading from future drafts for picks in this draft. If ever there is a year to take your medicine this is it.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
So which teams want to trade down?
MINN want out
GSW want out
CLE wants out
1-15 no one has any idea which 3-4 guys will turn out to be real players. Everyone wants a little something, to trade down because its a complete crap shoot!
Are teams getting smarter or is this year really that bad?

Why is New Orleans so desperate to get rid of salary? Arent they still rebuilding and can wait and see with picks and guys?
People can always be flipped mid-season too.
I would like the Pistons to get anything for Snell, but #16 or #24 seems incredible. I would happy if Rose + Snell got #16 and some g-league guys. Go full tank.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
For those saying the Pistons don't have assets that is wildly incorrect. #7 pick, Kennard, Rose, and Blake are all assets. Blake is only 31, and had the best season of his career 2 years ago. Kennard is a dead eye shooter, and Rise still has plenty left in the motor.
The Pistons may have to overpay to move up(surprise, surprise)but if they offered GS #7, the 2nd we just got,, Blake, and Kennard for Wiggins and #2(plus a filler from GS) I bet they bite. May have to sweeten the pot with a future first(protected)but that's not terrible.
What is terrible is that moving up to the #2 spot in this draft still doesn't guarantee you a world beater in this draft so its probably not worth it to begin with.
I just want Hayes, and I know it's not going to happen so I'm already bummed out. Being perfectly honest, I'm not attached to anyone on this team so if everyones gone and we have 3 picks by 7pm tonight ill be happier then I have been with this team is several years. Just do something other then more of the same old horsecrap of getting worse, or just good enough to land the 7th damn pick again.

I based mine off the rumor of houston wanting to save money and they go from the 3 year deal of gordon(4th is unguaranteed) and 16 mil to Snell's 1 year and 11 mil. They save 5 mil this year and about 35 the following 2 years.
He expires the year after blake and could be a good 6th/7th man off our bench or even possible starter if we trade kennard away

Yeah, I can't see either of these moves being a consideration at all.
Houston owes OKC a pile of picks and are likely looking at a long ground up rebuild. I highly doubt they would be interested in moving #16 (one of the few picks they have control of until 2026) just to dump some salary. Let alone add another future pick on top of that.
Also see no reason why Pelicans would look to trade a better pick than any of the ones they just got in the Jrue trade, just to move Bledsoe's salary (whom they got in the same trade.) Doesn't make sense.

Come on, Weaver. Make our day.
For most of the non Pistons involved trades happening, we just don’t have the pieces to pull it off.
I’m thinking we are going to be watching something of an expansion looking team this season. I keep thinking of how the nets did it as a basic idea of how we’ll be doing this.
Absolutely. That post was an expression of desire, not expectation.
We’re a long way away from being a long way away.
We don’t even have the ability to make interesting asset collection moves right now.

One final mock from SI. When it comes to the NBA draft, Jeremy Woo tends to be one of the more dialed in guys out there, so his take on who the Pistons could be interested in a move up for is...surprising:

I’m not saying it happens, more saying Detroit is probably going to have to take on at least one real garbage contract to add assets.
I based mine off, they have an abundance of picks now and Bledsoe is their worst overall contract of their 3 point guards.

Good for him though.

All it does is give me hope when I know that come 8pm tonight, I will be once again disappointed.
I believe there is a 0.00001% chance the Pistons move up to select Wiseman. I also believe there is around a 5% chanve they end up with Hayes. I think a lot of GM's are blowing smoke this year, trying to get trades done, and jockey for position scaring teams into moving up.
Damn this article.

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
i get the attraction/hype with patrick williams and wouldn't be upset if the pistons took him but i REALLY like tyrese haliburton and killian hayes. i think i like haliburton a little more though, he just feels like a winning player even though he's not the most talented iso scorer. plus his shooting form is a little odd but effective and he'd really only have to clean up his footwork to be able to shoot off the dribble/off screens better. but you know he's doing something right when a common draft weakness is his form yet he's a 42% shooter from 3 on good volume.
and i think haliburton's size (6'5, 7'0 wingspan) is a huge added bonus in playoff basketball because he's not a huge mismatch to exploit.
patrick williams reminds me of a SF/PF version of jaylen brown tbh. great athlete with "improving" offensive skills and a player who will be a great asset for a team in a tertiary offensive role. pascal siakam is another comparison, and so far he's shown he's nowhere near talented enough to lead a team in the playoffs as a primary option.
i just think the pistons can hope for more of a primary/secondary offensive option to build off of and i love haliburton in that role. i'd say that hayes has more potential to be a primary option on a good team but i just like haliburton's chances of thriving in whatever role you put him in (besides a lead scorer).

Re: Official 2020 Nba Draft Thread
also i want to go on record with this before the draft starts... i think lamelo ball is destined to be a rondo-like role player and that killian hayes and tyrese haliburton will be better than ball.
it actually baffles me why some scouts/fan/whomever predicts lamelo ball to be a superstar despite his COMPLETE inability to score efficiently. i'd love to see a case study of the least efficient pre-nba player to become a good scorer in the nba.

Lamelo is very dynamic with his passing that's undeniable but his efficiency is brutal. One thing though, his brother was brutal as well his first year, but this last year he was much improved.
37% from three isn't bad from Lonzo, especially coming from his first year. His PER is also higher.
3 hours 20 to go Piston fans.
