To make it works, the only way is a sign and trade. We can part ways with Fournier and Aminu, and gamble on a starter that could take us further in the playoff

where does the S&T come in? is that Hayward opting out and doing longer contract S&T to us?

Yes, a longer contract

i imagine he would want to go to a team with a better chance of winning.

I agree. But Magic also needs to be concerned with his injury factor. That is why I am thinking we are a wild card.

It could be awesome if it happens though. But I am not putting my hope towards it

Gallo rumoured to go to ATL in FA, despite them already having Collins.

I wouldn't be surprised if ATL looked at a veteran backcourt player to join him, too.

Hayward would transform Orlando, even without Isaac. Imagine getting Smart also - the alpha we need.

Fultz/#15
Smart/Ross
Hayward/MCW/Iwundu
Aminu/Okeke (Isaac)
Vucevic/Bamba

That's a competitive team.

Why you think they maybe gonna trade Smart? He was there 2nd or 3rd best player in the playoffs. Did i missed any rumors?

We definitely don't need the walking injury Hayward and another poor shooter in Smart. Wake up guys, we need the exact opposite. Players that can play constantly and stay injury-free and new guys that can help us not be a bottom 3pt-shooting team in the Eastern.
Having Hayward sidelined with his regular injuries for 30-40 games in his contract year and watching Smart chucking airballs 3 times a game ain't gonna help us.

S/T Fournier for Hayward signs nice, but it clogs our cap, pushes up our team-wide injury rate, and I think ATL offers more money.

Good luck to our ORL FO today and this week. I am okay with standing pat at #15, or punting it down another year. Don't listen to us armchair critics, including me

They know their vision. Let them execute it. Being a bottom team is horrific these days with the lottery reform and weakening drafts.

Weltman blew up a 2nd/3rd round Raptors team. The fact that he doesn't with a ORL team is more telling than you think. And not necessarily because of our players, but because of the cut-throat way teams reach elite status these days.

Vooch and Ross are untouchable vets for me! Fournier is a well-rounded starter! AG is our heart! Isaac is the franchise!
Okeke, Fultz, and Bamba have nowhere to go but up!

No one on this team is untouchable. None of these guys is a real franchise player. They need to do whatever it takes to build a winning team .

A) it's a 1 year rental where you wait and see how he meshes and then extend or cut.
B) his injuries are overblown and they were all unconnected freak things
C) he's one of the league's better SFs and was playing great when he returned to the Celtics
D) is he even 30 yet?

As for Smart, who knows?

I never wanted Hayward even at his peak with the Jazz. Not because he's bad, but because he's in that tier of players that always get max contracts even though they're not good enough to justify eating up such a large percentage of a team's cap. The exception is when you're already good, and such a player could realistically put you over the top and help you win a championship. But being bad and acquiring such a player to "get better" is not where you want to be.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

That contract is terrible. They had to give up a 1st just to get someone to take him.

Will be a low first tho. Not a huge deal for the Celtics I suspect.

Now the Thunder are close to acquiring the #18 pick in a deal with the Mavs for Galinari.

Wow.

This is going slightly off topic but I've always thought that a max contract often overpays players that don't deserve it. Players see it as a status symbol but lots of players get it that don't deserve it.

I think it's just kind of the nature of the salary cap. I think a salary cap is a good thing, because otherwise things would be even more "haves and have-nots" than they already are. On an open market, Lebron gets significantly more money than Hayward or Conley. But a salary cap rubberbands them into the same salary tier. Lebron is still way better than them of course, so his team gets way more bang for their buck.

Horford is the perfect kind of veteran we could use. Bad contract ok if we are rebuilding with young guys.

Rather have him than Vuc anyways. He plays better D.

Grab #21 add it to #15, move up and get your guy.
