I think it's one of two things:. Either this is the Bucks/Kings best attempt at avoiding tampering violations OR the Bucks and Bogi hit a roadblock in contract negotiations.

Personally I hope the deal goes through. I don't want to gamble losing Bogi for nothing.

FWIW, I think his agent and his family talked him into taking the money. Don't blame them nor him. The battery life of a professional athlete is short. Gotta maximize your leverage when you can. Can't pass up the opportunity to set up your family for generations.

Alternate theory, another owner complained about the Bucks jumping the gun. Adam Silver then was forced to call the Bucks and tell them they’d face a tampering charge and loss of picks (they already dealt). And the Bucks had to back out

Either way, it's dumb letting this **** get out before you can execute it. You hear with trades every year where GMs say "if we'd known (Porzingis/whoever) was going for that price we'd have made a better offer."

The only problem was the leak like 4 days before it's eligible. It would be incompetent not to be negotiating a deal like this when the Bucks did. It's part of the game.

I’d speculate it was Bogdans agent who leaked the deal.

It’s a win/win for him either way. If no one comes forward with a counter offer, he has the Bucks deal still in place. If someone does come with a counter (as has likely happened) he get more $$ for his client.

We may be being a bit too harsh on Lasry here.

You guys that think he backed out after someone ominous phone call with Giannis telling dude he’s not signing are incredibly paranoid.

He either backed out for more money or it’s still happening. How absurd would it be for Giannis to tell dude, yeah don’t come here and make us better this year cause I’m for sure leaving next year. Lol

Yes, its one of two things in my mind...

A) an elaborate ruse

B) Bogdon **** us (not anyones fault)

Giannis would be the **** slimiest man alive if he let the Bucks go through with that Holiday deal and then told Bogdanovic he wasn't signing here. Would demonstrate actual malice with a move like that towards a franchise and city he's seemed to show nothing but love. Think we can count that out.

In the end, it looks like it's either the conspiracy to avoid tampering charges or the Bogdan **** us angle. Meanwhile, everyone's darling Presti is negotiating sign and trades early as well and nobody is like "huh?"

The full MLE also triggers the hard cap. To avoid the hard cap, we'd need to spend no more than 5.7 million of the MLE, avoid using the BAE, and avoid sign and trades. We could still do more trades that take on 125% more than we send out.

I assume by Friday night unless someone comes over the top with an offer sheet in the 20s, this is done.

I hope.

I thought he couldnt make more than something like 4/77, even at that I'm sure other teams could offer better prospects in exchange on top of the deal. That's the dagger that's possible too

Gonna need to criticise Giannis for not locking down his friend.

I'm being half serious here.

Why don't more players and their agents do this, seems like a loophole if true.

People will **** on the front office and ownership wheni they get the chance. It's just in some scenarios, it's just that I think it's blatantly clear here that Bogdan dicked us over.

Beat me to it. Many of us suspected Marc Lasry's governorship would result in immature, over-excitable gossip and leaks like this. The ultimate moron at a poker table. Not saying we know it was the Bucks leaking, but this is just so on-brand for Lasry that it's hard not to be extremely suspicious.

They could be trying to avoid a tampering charge or something. Not inconceivable. I don't buy that they didn't consult with Bogdan and his agent though.

Not sure who's out there offering more, but AussieBuck may be right about the Celtics using Hayward and his larger salary to allow Bogdan to make more in matching a salary is a strong possibility. They have those late picks to offer too, don't they? Not giving up completely on this deal yet though.

GD, this is the wrong deal to go bad though. I love DDV but those picks in Jrue deal are much more frightening to lose. I also think a Bledsoe/Hill/Bogdan backcourt fits a little better than a Jrue/DDV backcourt. Two really good 3-point shooters at guard, as opposed to none? Yikes.

After digesting this, I’ll stick with the “just posturing” mindset.
