The ability to shoot will make or break him.

Hey y'all - Wolves fan here. I love the pick for you. I wanted Deni with the #1 pick, so I'll probably hang out here at times as the season gets nearer. Congrats and cheers!

Would have loved Haliburton with the pick. When was the last time we had a rock-solid combo guard off the bench? Antonio Daniels? Deni just seems redundant with another no-defense forward in Rui.

I hope I eat my words. We’ll see.

They certainly went BPA (of course you can argue about that) over fit. I like his potential and hopefully things work out in DC.

I think he can play. Not an immediate star or anything but the long game is strong here. I like this direction. Long, rangy, dynamic forwards and wings is the way of the future.

I wanted Halliburton.

Denji could be a steal. Could be completely mediocre

And pretty much everyone seems to think he'll be a good shooter.

Honestly, I would have taken Haliburton and wanted Okongwu, but... I had Avdija going 4th, and there's no doubt in my mind that he's a better prospect than Patrick Williams - who did go 4th. What really sold me on Avdija was hearing him interviewed a few days ago. He is supremely confident in his abilities - there's legitimately no doubt in his mind that he's going to be a great player. And he loves playing defense. Asked what type of players he wants to defend - he said the other team's best player - no matter the position. Some might think he's too similar to Rui - he's not. He was the right pick in that situation. And he'll start at the 3.

He can't shoot, his advanced stats are garbage, his free throw percentage is garbage. There's a reason why he slipped, he's not an NBA player.

Back to back drafts with forwards who can't shoot or defend. Good stuff Tommy.

I like the pick quite a bit but I'm big into high upside players...especially when selecting where we were.

I don't think so. I think they'll overpay Bertans (unless he gets a crazy +20M/year offer), but it's not my money...

Wall/Smith
Beal/Brown/Robinson
Bonga/Avdija/Schofield
Hachimura/(Bertans)
Bryant/Wagner

They need a defensive C and of course they still have their 37th pick (and maybe they buy another).

Could this be a pick they made for a trade down target lower down?

Deni Avdija, F, International — Promising forward whose shooting is suspect. The Wizards could do worse if he’s available at 9, though drafting him would likely necessitate trades. He’s probably a minimum of two seasons from being a contributor.

Here’s our very own Kevin Broom’s assessment of Deni, through the lens of YODA. (He had him at 8. Haliburton at 2, Vassell at 4)

Doubt it. Woj said the Wizards FO had Avidja very high on their board.
