So, there were definitely some solid matches last night: Darby v. Cody, Young Bucks v. FTR — but otherwise I think the PPV failed to deliver.

I didn’t care for the OC vs Dark Order guy match (John Silver?), nor the woman’s match. The women’s match was all over the place and went longer than it should’ve. I didn’t think the ending made much sense either, nor what unfolded afterwards.

The MJF/Jericho match was okay, but nothing special there. Both guys kind of worked as heels AND baby faces throughout the match, which was a little weird. I thought the ending should’ve been a DQ finish. If Jericho was caught red handed in that way, then why did he need the pin at all?

I skimmed through the main event as I just had no interest in seeing Kingston, or what I expected this match to be. Every Mox match seems like it has to be a hardcore death match, and I’m just over it. Also, whos approving Kingston’s attire? This neon green tank and basketball short set is the most unflattering possible attire for him. He needs to come out in jeans and boots, and a t-shirt and maybe some wrist tape/elbow pads. He cannot pull that look off and it just made him look silly.

The Hardy compound match was unwatchable, to me. Skimmed through it, caught some cameos, but this is a feud that should’ve been over for some time now. No interest in seeing these two wrestle, or in seeing supernatural Matt Hardy.

The Omega match was also very good.

You know what, I’ll give credit where it’s due — when it was good it was great, and when it wasn’t good, it wasn’t really bad at all (if that makes sense). I’ll give the show an 8/10. I enjoyed much more of it than not.

I enjoyed most of the ppv.
The highs were extremely high, but some pieces were dull or just bad.

Page vs Omega was absolutely brilliant. What a way to open the show.
They told a great story throughout, without telling the true story that's playing under the surface.
Also a great finish.

The whole Cody Rhodes thing is losing me. It's getting over the top and I'm not liking it.
His entrance with the whole entourage is dumb and not necessary.
Also, Darby Allen has been named in the speak out allegations, so he doesn't do anything for me.

It was a great decision to put OC vs Silver after Page vs Omega. Some light harted comedy was needed after that intense matchup.
OC benefits from a crowd, that's obvious.

The Young Bucks vs FTR was really really great. There were enormous expectations and they fulfilled them in my opinion.
Again a brilliant finish, because of the 'no flips' talk from FTR. Glad the Bucks showed why they are considered one of the best tag teams ever. It's been a long time they've showed that.

Hardy vs Guevarra was fun, but far too long and some unnecessary shenanigans. The finish was pretty brutal, but fitting.
Great performance from Sammy. He's been great.

Jericho vs MJF wasn't a great wrestling match, but the finish was again absolutely on point. I'm looking forward to see where this goes.

Moxley vs. Kingston was absolutely brutal, but in a magnificant way. What a fight!

All Elite Wrestling - Discussion

Post#1103 » by AirCanadaMouse » Mon Nov 9, 2020 6:58 pm

Excalibur is so important, he makes me realize things I wouldn’t have pieced together and knows all these moves and backstory. Didn’t like the last two matches but still had a great time viewing it:

- Omega vs. Page was a great, but didn’t like how they had a tournament to set this match up, the feud was building itself but I guess they want Omega in the title picture while still having him in a long term storyline.

- Silver has gotten himself over on BTE and has momentum amongst the internet fans, totally okay with him getting the opportunity. Filled it’s purpose, didn’t burn us out too quickly on the ppv card after an emotional feud as an opener, some moments i thought Silver might actually win. This was all fine with me tbh.

- Really liked this Cody vs. Darby match too, Darby winning is the right call given Cody getting the better of him in previous matches, and the promos Cody cut allowed them set up a nice win for the face, someone had to play the heel a bit to make the dynamic work. Good finish tbh, Khan mentioned in the presser, it played back on Darby being a former high school wrestler, playing back on the tazz and Cody Rhodes comments. Story telling worked well on all fronts.

- Women’s match wasn’t bad but it wasn’t nearly as good as the other matches they have had against one another. Glad Khan mentioned he should’ve built this better, Vickie should’ve been a bigger part of the storyline this time, but she needed time off and that left him limited. It would’ve been a different notch, not sure how I feel about the eventual Nyla face turn, but she cuts great promos and doesn’t need a manager. Not mad at the match since it seems to build into other storylines.

- Young Bucks are such a fun tag team. I love their look despite some of the comments I’ve read here, the kids love their bright attire and gear. Daughters especially tbh. And nice touch with the Lakers vs. Celtics colours too.

This match was a classic, amazing story telling with each them using tag moves from former teams that inspired them and then the finish going against their no flip gimmick. Fantastic stuff!

- Elite Deletion was just the kind of match that Matt needs, he really looked strong/unkillable. Almost to a fault because Sammy needed to win and be put over in this feud. the fireworks bit made me laugh, and I marked out over Gangrel, one of my favourites growing up solely off his bad ass entrance music lol. I was entertained.

- MJF vs. Jericho was super under whelming, I’m okay with the finish but felt like this match never really took off. Didn’t build to that finish at all. MJF didn’t prove to be any less softer. It was nice to see Jericho play the face though. He just totally gets wrestling. I was disappointed with the segment but this storyline is just getting started.

- I hated the main event. It just isn’t for me. Thumbtacks, barbed wire, all that hokey pokey non sense. Just a pass. I Quit matches in general are just not for me. It almost seems like they tried too hard to be hardcore. Idk. Didn’t click for me, but still didn’t ruin the night because I enjoyed this ppv.

So, that woman that interrupted Cody — ive been following her on Instagram for awhile now. It’s interesting that they just debuted her cold that way, but she has a tremendous look. She’s way bigger than I thought she was and looked a little...manlier(?) than I thought she would in person. She was damn near towering over Cody. As far as I know, she doesn’t have any extensive wrestling background — just some limited training and etc.

Also, I generally don’t mind Brandi, but she was way, wayyy over the top in that segment. It was like sitcom level stuff — just completely unbelievable.

Tony Khan made a statement earlier in the day — “tonight’s Dynamite will define AEW and will be full of surprises.” When you make a statement like that, anything short of a monumental debut will be a letdown. Now, I enjoyed the show, but making comments like that is disingenuous.

PAC returning was cool. All things considered, hes one of their best all around performers and perhaps one of their most recognizable talents.

The Jericho/MJF ‘thing’ is just silly at this point. Even after their match, whatever they’re doing is just developing so slowly and it’s at the point that I don’t even care where they’re going with it. The show looks like it’ll be better off when they’re away from one another.

The Bunkhouse match was pretty much a hardcore match, and I think they could’ve just called it that. Felt like it went a touch long also.

Cody feuding with ... Shaq? Not against it and I think Cody has the ability to pull something like this off, but I’d rather see him feud with another wrestler. But I also can’t imagine that this ‘feud’ goes long either.

This dynamite episode was so strange for me, idk. It was better than wwe shows (as always) but it was so weird to me.
i.e.:
- cody vs. Jade vs. Brandi vs. shaq?
- inner circle...

Meh episode but I loved the ending, that main event was awesome. Was not expecting them to tear each other’s masks like that, top it off with the PAC return, that was one of the better endings to Dynamite in quite some time.

I have zero appeal in seeing Shaq in aew, probably a TNT call, I hate seeing celebrities beat up wrestlers. And Shaq’s ego will not handle a squash match of any sort. That girl’s mic skills were awful. Total pass.

Just like the comments above, what’s the difference between bunkhouse and a hardcore? Total overbook on the blood, but it was an entertaining match tbh.

Sammy face turn has so much potential but he comes off as a poor actor in every promo, still giving this MJF Inner circle stuff a shot. I’m interested.

Pass on red Velvet - Tay Conti. Rather seen a Vickie-Nyla follow up for the women’s segment instead.

Spears and Sky feud fizzled, too bad. Sky needs a better push.

Zelina Vega was released by WWE today. She’d be a huge pickup for AEW whenever her grace period is up. The division could look a lot better in the next couple of months if Cargill ends up being a respectable talent and if they get Vega.

I think it’s because she actively spoke out about unionization, made it known that she would keep her Twitch account (and apparently she’s been making more off that then off her WWE deal, so I don’t blame her) and she also has an onlyfans account that WWE may not want her to have either.

If she is making THAT much off her Twitch streaming and etc., then she made the smart business move. There’s going to be a market for her and whether it’s on the Indy’s or in AEW, she’ll be able to wrestle, get paid well AND have her other sources of income — and not just a percentage like she would’ve had if she stayed with WWE.

Loving AEW now. I think once the Cleaner gets the title, it will be great seeing some of the faces in chase mode, though AEW is very heel heavy. Is Pac a face now? What does Mox move on to after he drops the title?

Pretty solid show, top to bottom. Top Flight vs Young Bucks was a good match. Fast paced, everything looked smooth and they’re obviously all good athletes.

I didn’t care for the OC/Sabian match. Cassidy is just more annoying than anything at this point and Miro was awful on commentary. He does himself no favors with the way he chooses to present himself.

The women’s match was solid. If Rosa was going to lose anyway then it probably would’ve made more sense to have her lose right after the interference from Baker. No need to have it go an extra 5 minutes.

The Inner Circle segment was actually pretty funny. I don’t think it furthered the storyline too much, but it was entertaining.

I’ve been finding it funny how Will Hobbs always seems to run out super late to make the save and then he did it again tonight, so I was like okay this is ridiculous lol. But good swerve at the end; didn’t see it coming.

Was that a botch with Fenix over the top rope and awkwardly landing on PAC's legs???

John Silver is pretty good in the ring, and he’s entertaining visually — but his ceiling is obviously a low mid-carder. Gives me Crash Holly vibes. Solid opening match between he and Hangman but I would like to see Hangman doing more than toiling around with lower level talent.

I’m surprised Will Hobbs has as much experience as he does; I would’ve guessed he was fairly new to pro wrestling. He was wearing this “scoffing” expression tonight, and he was just totally overdoing it. It was like they directed him to do that face for every second that he was on camera.

Anna Jay is GREEN. Not at all ready for a prime time TV match for the women’s title. She just clearly doesn’t know what she’s doing in the ring and it’s painfully obvious. I’m pretty sure I saw a part in the match where they had to edit it because of a botch in the corner. Everything was just off with her performance.

She’s a very attractive woman, and a pretty good athlete but she looks to be months away from being ready for consistent television exposure. Let’s hope the same won’t be true for Cargill when she debuts I suspect it will be. It seems that there’s a feel for wrestling that you only get through wrestling in front of crowds, knowing where cameras are and etc.

I found myself tuning out for a lot of these matches, it’s really weird how wrestling itself doesn’t get my interest at all unless it’s a ppv. But I actually still enjoyed this episode, the things that were for me , I really liked.

- The John Silver train continues. I like his in ring style, makes up for his lack of size. Marko should take note. Page won’t join the dark order, but the Uno promo made perfect sense for Hangman’s character/storyline.

- Anytime Omega/Moxley were featured on this show I was highly entertained. From omega’s backstage promo, to the Mox/Kingston interaction, and the entirety of the contract signing. I loved the part where Mox attacked Omega at the entrance ramp, very well shot with Moxley’s shadow coming up from behind.

- Will Hobbs on Taz is cool, but I’m not as interested in Hobbs as the other hoss wrestlers. My man Lee Johnson needs a win, I didn’t even know he was in the Nightmare family. Very random.

- Taz protest segment fell flat for me. I like the idea of it, but it wasn’t executed well, and then his son just randomly appears and walks out with him? What the heck? Lol

- I tuned out of this match but glad they’re building up towards a TH2 vs. Bucks title match.

- Surprised Vickie/Nyla didn’t build on their Full Gear storyline where they had a post match argument? Just seems weird to not touch on it and continue with whatever storyline they’re going for now.

- Inner circle looks so stacked it’s giving me some nwo vibes haha, felt like a kid where I actually want a Sting-like character to take them all out. Man, those were the days haha.

- Miro segment was kinda weird, I got Miro winning the battle royal next week though. You heard it here.

- Women’s title match was a total pass, but I marked out for Abadon. I always will.

- I didn’t pay much attention to the main event but Archer ending the show was nice to see, not sure if they’re doing Archer vs. Kingston or Kingston vs. PAC but I’m all for either one.

Forgot to touch on Miro/Sabian but they have go away heat with me. It’s just all silly and ridiculous and comedic and it’s more annoying than anything else. They’re going to have a whole video game segment now too ? Hard pass. They’re unwatchable.

Also, I find it funny that they didn’t bring Matt Cardona in full time. Cody said something about not bringing him because he doesn’t want it to look like he’s hiring all his friends...but it’s a little late for that? Lol. No shade, but that’s been a pretty potent narrative. I’m not the biggest fan of him but he has a great look and he’s a solid worker.

You guys are still caught up in face/heel dynamics when that stuff is entirely out dated. I understand it helps to build a feud and a match with that dynamic, but Cody has mentioned this much himself, and I’m glad for it.

Aew is not restricting themselves to face-heel feuds, they are all characters with good and bad traits. It’s almost if they’re people , lol.

You cheer for you want, and boo whoever you want. Guy above me hates Miro, I think he’s one of my top 5 favourites rn in all honesty. Boo, cheer, whatever. It’s any reaction and being vocal/invested in the characters is what they care about.

There are only a few clear cut faces, like Shida. Everyone else has shown heel tendencies.
