Why do I feel like the Spurs are going to make us look dumb?

Yeah, I said "of course the Spurs take Vassell". But, we do have our 2 and 3 of the future for sure. I like Vassell a lot but no guarantees with any of these guys.

I hear you, I'll root hard for Jalen. Im just failing to remember many guys like him that were successful.

Stop acting like we %100 passed on an all-star. JJ didn't waste anything. Do you guys remember Len, Josh Jackson, Bender? All had high places in the mock drafts they were supposed to be allstars but it never happened. Draft is a crapshoot. Smith has Ibaka potential. Get over it and support the young fella!

Yeah, I like that Jones is confident in his scouting instead of just taking the guy who is the best available prospect on the media consensus mock draft like McD.

No doubt, like that there is no fear of ridicule!! Not letting these so called experts (same ones who praised our picks of Bender, Chriss, Jackson, Len, etc...), dictate his choice!!

many of the suns greats were considered reaches and garnered much hate from fans when the picks were made. fans wanted john wallace instead of Nash, corey maggette over shawn marion, jared jeffries/butler over Amare, lets see what the kid can do before passing judgement, i think James Jones has earned some benefit of the doubt after the job well done last year.

I remember Gambo on the radio talking about us taking Jared Jeffries...this was AFTER Phil Weber told me they wanted Amare. I remember when he told me they wanted Amare I was a little surprised.

There are just not that many defensive PFs that can hit the 3. Is he not kind of like Ibaka? Ibaka went at 24 (actually one of the picks we traded to dump Kurt Thomas).

Look, replacing all of Frank’s minutes with Smith will probably be a win for us next year, but to expend a top 10 pick for that slight upgrade is insane. I don’t have a problem with the player, but the league isn’t built for guys like him to succeed anymore. We didn’t take BPA and we didn’t draft for fit so what are we doing? We should have swapped 10 for 25 this year and kept our 2022 pick.

Yeah, and this is the problem with most fans. They are okay with Jones doing what he did last year because the team was better. The bulk of the roster Jones walked into was trash so it's easy to improve. Frank is maybe the worst player still in the league and Paul is great so this team will be better, but we don't come close to maximizing our assets and it's going to limit the ceiling for this team down the line. And that is entirely on Jones.

Jones got rid of worthless sh*theads like Jackson and brought in the first real PG in years with Rubio. I could care less about those 2nd round picks he gave up which would likely not have netted us anything. For some reason, many in our board think the only asset are players and draft picks when in fact winning and team culture/chemistry are very important assets.

This is devoid of all fact and reality. We could have simply CUT Josh Jackson and he would no longer be in our culture. Instead, we threw a 2nd out there to dump him, when reportedly we could have received a pick from a number of teams according to Lowe for him. So much so the trade was laughed at league-wide.

I'm no Jackson fan, but those 2nds could end up being good players. Many all-stars have gone in the 2nd round. Those picks get added to other picks and become guys who can help you via trade. The trade was malpractice level inexcusable, as is routinely taking guys 15 spots higher than any other team had them.

I dont see what we can do. We cant really trade any future picks amd we dont have any tradeable pieces that are worthwhile for the other team

Nope. I had Smith as a player I liked in the draft thread. If you think Smith is best take Smith. Just be smart enough to recognize he will be there 5-7 picks later and get the extra assets. Salary caps and extra picks matter.

Amare was not the sought after prospect in the draft at all, Nene and wilcox were the ones fans wanted, even Melvin Ely and Haislip were ranked higher than Amare, there was a guy named something woods that was being compared to tmac as well.

@everyone on this board claiming those lost picks don't matter. We could very easily be trading the extra pick we threw in to get the trash PG we just moved, and the pick we threw in to dump Jackson, to get either right now.
