This guy is full of energy....he dunks hard and maybe that helps Ayton finish hard too...it also could help replace Oubre in some ways as the guy that gets people pumped up..he dunks hard. He blocks hard. He hits the 3. People liked Okongwu a lot but this guy is way more versatile.

He's not a bad player at all. Maryland was terrible whenever he was out. He can do most everything except dribble / playmake (which he is comically bad at, but that's okay). But I still won't defend the pick at the position he was selected with the guys on the table and the near 100% certainty that we could've traded back and still gotten him.

He was projected to go to the Celtics at 14 as well. It doesn't really make sense trading down 1-3 picks.

yeah, Celtics had a hard on for him... if I just take my friend's advice anyways, he is also a poster here in RealGM but he wouldnt tell me his name... and vice versa so he doesnt know me haha.

Anyways, apparently he ticks the boxes as a ready to contribute big man who can shoot the 3pter but also protect the paint. And on the low, I was hoping Suns would nab him first... so now I get to gloat

Memphis taking all the guys who are consensus picks at positions we needed and are rebuilding YEARS quicker than it took us.

Sucks this Celtics pick was ours and we traded it for Jerome (and took Baynes contract)....figures Desmond Bane goes with the pick we used to own from the Bledsoe trade....sounds like he's going to Memphis though in a trade.

I would have preferred a Bane, Terry/Flynn/Riller, Reed draft to spread out the risk and fill out the bench but hard to know without seeing how the rest of the off season plays out. Hopefully Smith is special.

I did mention that there should be immense value in the 2nd round, And pushed picking up 2nd round picks for depth right? I can't imagine needing to keep Kaminsky with a much better version of him.in Smith on board. We should pick up a 2nd or two for two of these players, And let them replace Okobos' And Jerome's position. Then we'd absorb them for a lower cost into Kaminskys' salary. And then can still pursue a quality veteran backup guard.

I doubt anyone is trading a second for Kaminsky...they probably assume we won't pick up his option and can sign him if they want with an exception if they don't have cap space.

Okobo is one that could have value since he is young..people theoretically could still think he has upside, but of course there is Theo Maledon who is another French PG who you control for longer if you want...or Mannion.

Perhaps if it was a team that needs a floor spacing 5 on a cheap expiring, Or has a guard of interest to us around that salary for exchange? And we could always add a 2nd or Okobo as a sweetener if they have interest. As crazy and unpredictable as things have been, You simply never know! :dontknow:

The NBA also gave them a head start with the Ja Morant gift wrapped with a bow tie rigged lottery system.

I mean, in a similar sense they did give us Luka...

Yeah, I said "of course the Spurs take Vassell". But, we do have our 2 and 3 of the future for sure. I like Vassell a lot but no guarantees with any of these guys.

I hear you, I'll root hard for Jalen. Im just failing to remember many guys like him that were successful.

There are just not that many defensive PFs that can hit the 3. Is he not kind of like Ibaka? Ibaka went at 24 (actually one of the picks we traded to dump Kurt Thomas).

If he works out the way he is theorized then yeah its great, i guess im just worried that this archetype has a low rate of success. Im getting Adreian Payne flashbacks lol. You're right as far as rarity though, i just looked through the last 10 drafts and found less than 20 1st rounders that even had a similar profile in size/strengths combination. So maybe its just small sample. Like I said, I'll be pulling for him.

We had the chance to draft Luka & Tatum, but instead got Josh Jackson to piss off Danny Ainge and bragged about it to cause Tatum to go 3. We can't complain about a lack of opportunity with picks at this point. And with this GM, he wouldn't be taking Luka either. He wouldn't have been a good enough shooter to go there. Probably would've gone Jarren Jackson 1.

And apparently still could, Only for much less contractually it seems. :D

Yep and forgot about Bane. He's gone now.

Hopefully, They have a specific target that nobody saw coming! I mean it kinda is their MO isn't it? I still have a modicum of hope.

Well, they lucked out in getting the #2 pick...jumped us..we would have taken Ja. Other than that they've drafted 3 PFs in the last 3 years. I did like JJJ and obviously Clarke though, especially at 21...a lot of other teams passed on Clarke though.

This regimes worst pick is Jerome.

Of course the pick that set us back the most by not taking the alternative many here wanted, was Ayton over Doncic. Jackson over Fox and Isaac were bad too, as was Bender over Murray or Hield...or trading Bogdan, 13 and 28 for Chriss..could have taken LeVert, Dejounte Murray and kept Bogdan instead of trading for Chriss.

It's been a HELL of a lot worse. Kendall Marshall?

You sure seem pissed off for a guy that has watched all this.

With what picks? We moved most our collateral for the insanely terrible PG from UVA and to dump Josh Jackson.

Ainge was never taking Jackson, even if he would have worked out for them.

No, we didn't have a chance to draft Tatum.

Ask every team if we can swap a future 2nd for their 2nd pick this year and take Terry. Have to be plenty of teams willing.

man on paper Jalen Smith is like channing frye with Amare's athleticism/hands and protect the rim like Camby but i keep forgetting nba is completely different from nba 10 years ago, teams used to play two bigs together so it was okay to play frye alongside Gortat but things are completely different now.
