Let's be honest, there is not a single selection that would have blown away the overwhelming majority. I'll judge him based off of his performances and others drafted in the top 10.

We had a “Who do you want with the 4th pick?” thread in August and I was the only person to say Patrick Williams. He wasn’t even an option in the 10 player poll. Needless to say I’m excited. He’s big, smart and physical with a nice base of skills and he’s got some dog in him. This is the type of player to bet on with our new focus on player development.

Yep, the truth is, players outside the lottery, or even late in the first round may be better than players picked much higher - it's that type of draft. We just need to hope that our front office made the right choice, but beside the top 3, or maybe even top 2 players in this draft I don't consider any player being a big reach or a major gamble over another player.
This is definitely potential pick, I can agree with that, but I don't consider it a reach where another player would have been more of a sure thing.
Why so serious?

In a very weak draft at the top you have to have some faith in the new regime. Personally I would've preferred Avdija given his playmaking ability but there is an argument to be made that Williams has the most 2-way potential of anybody in the draft outside of Edwards and Wiseman, so why not swing for the fences?
What I'm most curious about is whether they view Williams primarily as a pure 3 or a small ball 4, which is dependent on how they view Markkanen and Carter. I think small ball 4 next to Markkanen as a small ball 5 is probably the best fit.
You can definitely see shades of Kawhi in his game though, particularly in his shooting mechanics and shot selection/style, but that's kind of similar to how you can see shades of Doncic in Avdija's game if you squint real hard.

All the "stop the crying" post is unfair and not what this board is about. We are not bulls fans who just go along we all give our criticism when we see fit and we give props when we see fit. None of us have to just go along. This board is for both perspectives not just 1 side. I find all these takes like this cheap insults your not more of a bulls than me because you will just roll with whatever they do. Hell our takes are not insane its scouts experts all over the place not so sure about this pick as well.
All I'm saying is those of us pessimistic are not trying to coerce everyone to feel how we feel and I dont think its cool for those optimistic to accuse those of us pessimistic of just being whiners. This thread is for opinion, for or against. Its ok that some of us are unsure or against.
I saw at least 3 videos that I can remember posted in this thread that state why this is a valid pick.
I watched videos that carried just as much pessimism as many of us have here. Not that he is a clear bust. Just that him going 4th is not really justified and he def has some holes in his game. He not a great outside shooter, he not a very good scorer off the dribble, he doesn't have a excellent ability to create his own shot, guys like obi toppin, okongwu, okoro, even deni had projected to have very high ceilings. And they were all there for us to take. So now if Williams is just a mediocre prospect who will be will be followed with the labels "development " and "potential " for years to come just how Hutchison valentine Carter jr even lauri have now and obi okongwu etc bust out and do very well we are going to regret this draft.
It's why I'm saying if he works than these guys look like geniuses but if he bust we won't hear the end of it. Just not the way you want to start this new regime.
Feels like the Bulls just drafted Small Forward Wendell Carter.
Nothing about Williams offends the basketball senses, but nothing really wows me either. It's almost like the Bulls just wanted to draft a 3 and D guy.

You've just described what will happen to every FO that picked in the lottery. In the end, projected range is a crapshoot, even more in this lousy draft.
Constantly underwhelmed by the Bulls.

You'd need someone to want to trade up to #4 in a three player draft. Don't really see that happening.
He wasn't falling past 7, and teams did want to trade up for him. There was no trading back for Williams.
#4 could have been the sweet spot of the draft. The top 3 were uber talented, but there are still red flags with them too. Those were set in stone for many months. But there is often the darkhorse in a draft hidden by circumstance who rises and has a very good career. 4 was the spot to take the dark horse this year. If there was an NCAA tournament this year and the kid showed out and got some exposure, who knows if it would have been a 4 man draft or not.
A lot of people don't like that he wasn't a starter. That was by design, he was clearly a starter material recruit. He was able to check his ego and be a weapon off the bench for the good of the team, and that is a positive.

If he is as hard of a worker as say, Jimmy Butler, then we might have the steal of the draft. His defensive instincts are way higher than Hutchinson or Porter Jr. and his passing looks under rated. I read somewhere that he played PG in high school some of the time. The only thing is developing a better outside shot but playing with Zach, Coby, and Lauri maybe we need someone like him. I just can't wait to see this kid play and improve.

I too see some Kwahi similarities, I just haven't had the nerve to say it out loud.
The way he moves, his length, his shot, his demeanour have shades of Kawhi. He is a good athlete, but not elite, but not all elite athletes make for great players. Hell, Kawhi himself wasn't and isn't an elite athlete, and you could argue he is a pretty average athlete, but his length, strength and basketball IQ makes up for it.

If this was only 7 months ago I feel much better about him as a prospect. He looks way more fluid and skilled than any of the game tape I’ve seen. It’s only a workout so I still have high skepticism but it’s a bit less quizzical. Go find a legit playmaker and perhaps all isn’t lost.

Yea they are built and move similarly and their games are conceptually similar. Of course Kawhi was developed by one of the best organizations/coaches ever with one of the best infrastructures ever, and a Kawhi-level outcome is a ridiculously unlikely outlier, but it will certainly be an interesting test to see how the new regime/staff is able to develop young players.
I'd be thrilled if Williams could turn into a Jaylen Brown-level player, anything beyond that seems unrealistic to even discuss as a possibility even when talking about a ceiling.

All in all, I'm fine with the pick. Considering this draft is a huge crapshoot anyways, might as well swing for the fences. You can see the talent in his game.
Reading more about him, there's plenty to like.
Plus this is where the new player development staff can come into play.

Apparently Williams and Coby know each other. Williams said: “Through all of high school i’ve been playing with him and against him in different camps. We played each other often, pretty much every summer... it’s kinda crazy that I got drafted by the Bulls.”
So it might not confuse those guys as much as it confuses some of the fans. Seems like he’s already friends with at least one of these guys
