Agree to disagree. Valuable for the kid getting picked because the contract is guaranteed (unless that's changed recently)
If we don't have a slot for the dude then you punt it down the road.
At that point in the draft if you think you can get your dude in the second you take the shot there. Same reason Freddy Van went undrafted. He wanted to bet on himself and did not want to deal with the 2nd round uncertainty. iirc he made that news available to teams.
Every single year people will rate a future second over the last 5 or so picks in the first round, because they're a similar level of player but you aren't locked into a large financial commitment in the second round.
To get 2 of them, in ANY DRAFT YEAR is always considered a win in value.
And if it's a high second then getting just that in a trade for a late first is always considered a win. This is like textbook GM knowledge.
