I'm pretty sure not resigning the guy who had you within a shot of beating the champions is a big mistake. One an elite exec in Riley capitalized on and made the finals. Brand was in over his head. I'm not even sure who he was bidding against with Harris and Hortford.

With the way they've remade the roster so far, I can see them doing well this year.
I think Elton Brand was in way over his head. Morey is an excellent GM.
I don't even think he was in over his head. He just made poor construction decisions. Sometimes talent can overcome anything but their roster construction was too poor for that.

Knee jerk Draft Grade : B+
I love the picks but that's probably more of an indictment about the entirety of this draft. I just didn't love any of these prospects.
Having said that, Williams makes sense to me as an upside pick and appears to have a solid floor as well. The body is NBA ready and he should be able to step on the floor as a defender fairly quickly. The offense may require some patience but I see signs of usefulness, if not more.
Simonovic is young, tall, and can shoot. I like all of those things. Stash him and if he ever gets good we've got ourselves a steal.

The lack of turnover is concerning.
AK realizes these are the guys that got GarPax fired, right?

Well, one thing he hasn’t done yet is ‘sell low,’ and there’s nobody to sell high besides arguably Zach, who arguably still can’t be sold very high...
And he made tough but smart decisions letting Dunn and Shaq go.
And almost the entire Advocate Center staff has been flipped.
So... It’s a tad ridiculous expecting him to either dump all the crap-value sub-22yos for all-stars or conversely some high-hype pick in a very tough draft
Am I right?
I expected most the roster flipped by next year (as in 6-8 new guys), and I stand by that. There was literally no reason to get desperate tonight.

i get the impulse to shake things up quickly because we are very familiar with the players on this team, but
1) the league year started like two days ago
2) even if we don't make any big moves this month, i don't think it's unreasonable for a new gm to say "we don't feel like it'd be the best approach to move on from most of this roster until we see the players under a coach who is not jim boylen or fred hoiberg"
i would be kind of disappointed if we don't even see any action on the thad/sato types in the next few weeks, but i don't think it's actually fair to be critical of a lack of aggressiveness until the deadline and next offseason

The truth of it is that AK has done nothing impressive with the actual roster/assets yet. Which is a bit of a disappointing outcome after a much hyped draft night.
There's time left in the offseason, but you'd hope the first "turnover" domino would have fallen by now. Even if it's something obvious like cutting Felicio.

A whole new front office, a whole new coaching staff.... A big turnover already happened, and it was an important turnover.
It's a weird time during this pandemic. Free agency is about to start, then training camp begins in a few weeks. We should be patient.
Also, the main core guys were never likely to be moved this year. We'll see about Young, Sato, and maybe OPJ, though his contract makes it tough to move unless it's a swap.

AK made big changes within the organization, if the players dont improve then you change the players....I believe the players are good and fit but there was a lack of organizational infrastructure to support the players

1. Turnover is coming via trades. AK probably wants to see what he has with Billy D and pump some value before he makes his moves.
2. Rumors have been AK wants a vet PG and Sato is available via trade. I think OPJ is too based on Evs comments of OPJ being out of shape last season.
3. Sounds like Bulls like Lauri more than WCJ and maybe WCJ is the trade chip for a vet PG.
White/Vet FA/Arch
Lavine/Val/Sato
OPJ/PW/Hutch/Sato
Lauri/Young/PW
WCJ/Gafford/
If we can find trades for Sato and Young that would be great.
I like the idea of a trade of OPJ and Sato/Young for Dinwiddie and Prince.

Pft, LJ would be a let down. He's got to be Bron but with a 3pt shot.
