Re: The 2020 NBA Draft - New Poll
Alright time to focus on free agency. We’ve got Paul/Booker/Bridges/Ayton as locks for the starting lineup. Dario (re-signed) and Smith as bigs off the bench. Carter (re signed) as a guard off the bench. Nader and Cam as forward depth. We need a PF/SF and backup PG. Our ceiling is pretty capped out at about a 5th seed given what we have to spend, and the lack of high ceiling prospects on roster.
Edit: forgot about Cam Payne

So this high school teacher-become web blogger with no NBA playing or front office management experience is the ultimate authority on how the Suns managed their assets. He's just another talking head and probably hasn't watched but a few Suns games the last few years. He's a Celtics homer with a nice personality kinda like Stephen A Smith is a Knicks homer with a **** personality.
Lowe is unequivocally one of the top hoops writers in the country... calling him "high school teacher-become web blogger with no NBA playing or front office management experience / celtics homer" because of his association with Bill Simmons is laughable at best.

Yeah, total amateur.
He might be an outstanding "editorial/opinion" writer but does his Columbia degree make him an expert in NBA front office management, an area where his experience is limited? Tucker Carlson, Rachel Maddow, Zach Lowe ... experts at opining.

I remember when Jones took over he said something to the effect that good players want to play on good teams. Alluding to the fact it doesn't really matter what assets you have because if you aren't good you're not going to be able to attract any outside talent and you won't be able to keep the good players you do manage to develop.
I believe this is why he's willing to make moves that are often criticized as poor asset management to "raise the floor". His relationship with Lebron probably best illustrates the type of player empowerment the league has and the importance of being a place players want to play.
Obviously everyone would rather maximize their assets in all aspects of life, but as long as the team continues to take steps forward and be competitive I think he'll feel the ends justify the means.

You are exhausting.
It must be exhausting to confront the reality of the situation--there isn't an excuse for the asset management of this team for Jones's entire tenure. This is universally accepted everywhere outside of this board apparently. It shouldn't be enough that Smith ends up good. I do think he'll be good. I just don't see the point of excusing the rest of this draft, which we cannot participate in because our GM committed what the smartest NBA writer of our time termed malpractice.= for an entire offseason.
Well Jones has mismanaged his way to the best Suns team in over a decade, so give me some more of that mismanagement please.

Just a bit disappointed honestly. I mean the front office must have a plan right?? We obviously need cost effective depth at varying positions post trade, And given our current cap situation. Unless we should assume that Kaminsky and/ or Okobo are suddenly going to show significant progress and contribute more.

If you had to choose, Would you really choose Okobo based off of what we've seen so far over Riller or Merrill from what we know of them from their profiles? Also, What do we do with Kaminsky now that we have a significantly upgraded version in Smith? I'm disappointed because these minimal cost contract prospects represent very low risk potentially high reward prospects that at their respective amounts have a fairly good chance of outplaying their contracts. And thusly being viewed as positive assets. And isn't that really the borderline of what you hope for with these 2nd round prospects?

Also, in utilizing these low cost contracts to address positional depth with cost controlled assets, it allows us to reallocate more of our cap space on higher priced higher tier veteran free agents. So yes, I'm disappointed. But I'll pull back for a bit and reflect on free agency before rendering further judgment. For now though, it seemed to be an somewhat decent yet uninspiring outcome.

Windhorst reported the same thing. Jones is miles better than McDonough but he has had some headscratchers.
