This is one of the only music videos on YouTube with an Easter egg Nate Wolters signed basketball in the background:

I can't believe it took me so long to discover this band.

Old, but 2020 was the first year I could say I understood this song, or felt it more so. Got the album from a family member in high school.
Inadequate perception I reckon it's from the Valium

Some of my favorites from the year.

Really love the new Nathaniel Rateliff album. Several good ones, this is my fav.

Discovered The Districts this year, though they've been around a while. This one hooked me.

I haven't dug into the album much yet, but love newest Perfume Genius singles.

Again, haven't listened to the full album yet, but love this return from Future Islands. The hook is pretty infectious.

HAIM.

My favorite chillwave-r with a new album this year, as well.

I really like this song and love how it's been reworked here.

Kamasi Washington "Harmony of Indifference" (2017). One of those rare albums that is an emotional journey.Haven't felt like this since Gil Scott Heron's Spirits.

Washed Out: "Within and Without" (2011). Just a beautifully produced album. Influences ranging from MBV, Tears for Fears, Pet Shop Boys, Cocteau Twins, Kraftwerk, New Order, Doves.

Angelique Kidjo: "Remain in Light" (2018). She interprets Talking Heads seminal album and opts for power whereas Byrne brought paranoia.

My Dad is a huge music obsessive, he has been my whole life. He has a giant vinyl collection, still loves to get new stuff. He is in to a wide variety of music, particularly country and 50s/60s rock.

I enjoy buying him something he's not heard/thought of- I gave him a copy of Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot on vinyl last year and he loved it. Does anyone have thoughts on whether the latest Phoebe Bridgers album is still enough in the realms of alt-countryish enough that an old fart (who is quite open minded) would have his mind blown? I loved it, but wary I may be too close to it to be objective.

Gotta say- I've not heard of Washed Out, but I'm not sure I've read a better list of bands to have me going "I MUST LISTEN TO THIS!" Will give them a try tonight (and frankly all 3 sound great!).

I made this yesterday. Meditated on that Giannis signing and now here we are. You're welcome. :)

Clench your tuches and watch Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin covering a classic from Jewish Queen Peaches.

I love this so much. My first time ever hearing this song was only a couple years ago during the wedding scene from Letterkenny. Classic scene.

I got organized and put my favorite jazz records of 2020 into a twitter thread. Feel free to check it out and support some amazing musicians that could probably use the support this year:
