Seems like a good fit. Shooter that can grab some rebounds.

Not exactly an athletic marvel. Hopefully, he's a guy that loves the game, loves to work out and practice ... maybe in a couple years he'll look like an NBA player in a couple more years. Good luck to him.

Re: Cj Elleby
Saw him in a few Oregon/Wazzu games. No strong feelings. Was solid but not remarkable from what I remember, which isn't much.
That said, I have trust in Olshey drafting SG/SF shooters in the second round.
We all know I was high on a different Wazzu alumni in Malachi Flynn. So the Blazers drafting Elleby instead of Flynn is like asking for a pony for Christmas, opening a pony-sized box, and finding a really big dog instead.
Olshey: Surprise! That's your pony!
But seriously, Flynn and Pritchard went way earlier than projections had them. Makes sense. A lot of uncertainty in this draft. Take someone more proven. So I really can't fault Portland for not taking two players drafted in the 20s with their 46th pick.
From what I've read and the highlight videos that obviously leave out his flaws, Elleby seems like a better pick than Scrubb. Similar body styles, but Elleby is far more proven going against Pac12 talent for two seasons. Ultimately, it's the 46th pick, so if the Blazers get anything out of it, it's a win.

Re: Cj Elleby
On that note, Scrubb went late in the draft to the Clippers. Slightly disappointed there as he would have been interesting on a two-way contract to see if the hype was real. Based on incredibly limited information, I wouldn't give up Hoard for him, though. Texas Legends need to be in win now mode!

Re: Cj Elleby
I’d be lying if I said I watched anything other than a couple of highlight vids.
Let’s hope he turns into Ime Udoka, because those poor shot selection “highlights” looked more like Mario on a bad night than anything that will ever help an NBA team.
I’m convinced Olshey drafted him just so announcers can talk about, “CJ to CJ” unnecessarily for minutes on end.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, this might just rival 2000 and 2013 as the worst drafts I’ve ever seen, since I started watching them.

More worried it's a Burt Kolde pick, being a fellow Wazzu alumni. Then Scrubb turns out to be the steal of a decade.
For the record, I never bashed Scrubb because of his name. I just don't think he put up impressive enough stats at the JUCO level to be picked above someone putting up similar-to-better numbers against a major conference.
Plus neither really fill a need for the Blazers right now. I know you always draft the best player available, but Flynn, Pritchard, and Malden were projected in some mock drafts to be available. If you can get an interesting player at a position of need, it's just more exciting as a fan then going "If Hood doesn't re-sign, we might have just got our fourth string shooting guard!"
But Elleby has some interesting traits, so I'm fine keeping an open mind and hoping that the Blazers' staff can further develop him. There isn't anything red flag waiving about the pick.

That 2000 draft was indeed the worst draft class but 2013 with the Freak was not a bad draft. Anthony Bennett who went first
was a bust but certainly with Oladipo, Otto Porter, CJ, Stephen Adams, Gobert in addition to the Freak is a good draft and I remember
the draft discussions on this board centered on CJ, Adams and the Freak and I remember a lot of anguish when when Gobert went
towards the end of the first round

Are you trying to say that he's two years from being two years away?

Re: Cj Elleby
So Blazers got another average-sized wingman, who is supposed to be able to shoot the ball.
Well, that's something you can always expect when Neil Olshey is running your team. This man definitely has an eye on a certain type of player haha.
Anyway, I don't think he's going to be able to contribute this year, so I wish him good luck and a quick adaptation to the NBA lifestyle.

Re: Cj Elleby
That draft suuuuuuucked. Usually I love the draft, because we as Blazer fans are used to seeing alot of action by our GM. This year we just watched, never hearing the Blazers get mentioned once by Woj, except for announcing the movement of #16 and Ariza.
But this movement of the #16 for ROCO counts as draft performance. Then evaluate the #46 pick, and keep in mind, it's #46 in 2020, the undisputed worst year ever, and we grabbed a high character, GTJ-light, 3rd string SG which I felt was a position of need. He will be 14 or 15 on the depth chart, and a good selection if the plan from Olshey is to, Rinse & Repeat, which I'd be a fan of. I LOVE OUR BUBBLE BLAZERS! BRING 'EM BACK!
Dame / Simons / ???
CJ / GTJ / cj
ROCO / Hood / Little
Collins / Melo / Gabriel
Nurkic / Whiteside / ???
Playoffs:
Dame
CJ / GTJ
ROCO / Hood
Collins / Melo
Nurkic / Whiteside

No. I said "maybe" as in he could have NBA game earlier or later than two years followed by a cushion of a couple more years.
And I did wish him luck.
The guy is one of 60 in the world this year to get drafted. A good start. I like to see a couple NBA skills in a pick ... or an uber athlete with a work ethic ... or a comp to a former player on something he does ... or the beginnings of a range of skills with an X factor possibility. Something. Olshey has seen enough to pick him, so I do, actually, wish Elleby luck. 46 is a place to start. Numbers against Pac12 competition is a start. Hope he's in a gym this morning.

Lamelo Ball going #3 with very little resistance shows me everything I needed to know about this draft. Ill take a dude who put up 17/7 in the PAC at 46, especially with the hair and name. He'll bring immediate production I'm feeling.

Nothing really impressive about him. 34% from college 3? That's about what Harkless shot as a Blazer from NBA 3, and no one gets him for his shooting.

I'm still making up my mind about him (major concerns about his lateral quickness) but he did shoot 41% from 3 his freshman year on 4 attempts per game. Sounds like he went from being a mostly catch and shoot player to having to create more of his own and be the primary focus of the other teams defense. Luckily on our team he will be back to mostly a C&S player so maybe he can shoot closer to that freshman year. At least that's the half-full way to look at it. The half-empty way is that he was not ready to take a larger role which suggests he's pretty limited.

Washington State was the 301st best three point shooting team in college basketball last season. Needless to say, they didn't run an offense conductive of getting shooters open for threes.

his load last season was beyond his capacity. HENCE the lower efficiency than previous season. With the blazers, I think his load will befar more compatible to his capacity, getopenbeyond the line, sink open shots, sneaking for some offensive boards, bother the passing lane, keep in front of his man. This cj can-do this.

Dullest Blazer draft night ever? On the bright side, the best year to have a boring draft is 2020. Our Summer League team would have been highlighted by Little and Elleby.
