#45 - Jordan Nwora (Forward, Louisville)

There are more role player specialty skill guys than ever before in the 2nd round. Do I think this guy is it? No, does he have a chance? Yes. That's the rise of the triple, he has good balance off the catch, squares up before the ball hits his hands and let's it fly. I'm not mad at it.

As far as why there are more specialty skill guys than ever? Guys who didn't have a place in this league 10-15 years ago, can shoot their way onto a roster. Korver for example, was an afterthought for years, and it wasn't until Bud used his gravity and made him into a hub of his offense that he really mattered. Korver comes into the league now and he doesn't wait until 31, 32, 33 years old to make a substantial impact. NOW, you've got an UDFA in Duncan Robinson who found his way into Michigan from D3 in Miami. He's not the only gem.

Btw, Korver had far better years before he came to the Bucks - when he was not an afterthought, but he really did have his best years after age 30 because he simply improved as a player. He declined after joining the Bucks, because he got older and slower.

The thing that bothers me with Nwora is his play lacks a sense of urgency. The reason I think Merrill could be a steal and Nwora won't make the changes necessary to make it is simply Merrill wants it more.

Preferred a couple other guys still on the board, Mays probably tops that list. Rooting for Nwora to find his niche though. Bucks need depth and his tweet gives me good vibes.*

Lasry is a disaster. If it is his fault that they're leaking so much, I think Edens should sue to get the governorship back by citing damage to the franchise. Lest you think I'm overreacting, please remember Lasry's relationship with Kidd and all the crap that went down in that era. If they can get him on losing draft picks as a penalty for tampering, I think they should be able to put the brakes on his reign. I wonder if there's any contingency plan in their agreement for stuff like that.

Yes, I know, like when he was 31, 32, 33 and his gravity made those Hawks teams very successful. I personally don't think he suddenly improved in those years to the degree where he went from journeyman to crucial rotation piece. His game just didn't fit the league when he came into it as much as it did later on.

Thanks. I was swamped with end-of-term grading last night and finding out that NYC schools would be closed as of this morning. And what happened to #42? Why is it officially traded to the Hornets? I thought the Bucks were getting that in the Jrue deal. Not that it makes the Jrue deal that much less disturbing to me...

Nehm said they decided against buying the 42 and instead traded with Orlando for the 45.

a) I think most are worrying a bit too much about a mid-second round pick. Most of these guys don't do anything in the NBA.

On the other hand...

b) Nwora is very good. He'll get minutes for the Bucks, especially considering they have no players at the moment. Kid can obviously shoot the lights out. I know the jump from college to the NBA is massive, but he's a better overall offensive player than lots of you are making him out to be. He's also quite tough, fights for boards (from the few games I watched), something that never hurts in the NBA.

Yeah that was my immediate reaction in reading his scouting report that we drafted a shorter, less athletic DJ, shrugs. Hope he can shoot better

Was hoping for a lot of "I like the other pick more because scrappy white dude from Utah" takes and I have not been disappointed.



Nwora actually is an NBA caliber athlete that can shoot, so I think there's definitely an easier path to an actual role on an NBA bench for him. In theory he's the perfect kind of stretch-4 prospect in this day and age if you're going small. Very happy to get a guy likethat in the mid-40s.
