For those that dont necessarily like the moves we made yesterday, I think youre simply forgetting about how much these moves VASTLY and i mean VASTLY improve Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons games.

27.5pts, 13.6reb, 3.7asts, 1.9blks, 48.4% FG on 18.7 att/game, 10.1FTA/game
23.0pts, 11.6reb, 3.2asts, 1.3blks, 47.7%FG on 15.7att/game, 8.5FTA/game

For those that may have forgotten just how incredibly good Joel Embiid is, the top row is 2 years ago. The bottom row is last year. He didn't get worse at basketball. He was surrounded by players that simply made his life hard as hell last year. And the same goes for Ben. Last year was throwing a bunch of good NBA players names at a wall and paying the ones that stuck the longest.

Is Danny Green a better basketball player than Al Horford? No way in hell. Is Seth Curry a better basketball player than Josh Richardson? Not at all. But what Danny Green and Seth Curry do is make Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons in 2020-2021 far better than Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons in 2019-2020. And that is worth more than any other value we could have picked up on the trade market.

One underrated aspect of these moves...

Matisse Thybulle was like the 6th or 7th offensive option last season.

He is now 10th or 11th.

That makes me feel better about his overall fit on the roster. He may not get as many minutes as last year, but he will have a defined role and not be expected to shoot 40% from 3 at volume, which is very good for him.

Seth Curry should play at least 25mpg this upcoming season. I don’t give a damn about defense.

How does Seth's defense compare to Reddick's 2 seasons ago?

We need a real PG backup. Maybe Jeff Teague?

Also need a vet big backup. Noel? Baynes?

After that we’re good.

I feel so good about the direction of this team going forward after last night. It literally couldn't have gone better, Morey is saving this team from Brand's foolishness.

After listening to Morey:

He always talked about the combo of Ben and Joel, said they are here for a long time. So don't feel he would trade Ben atm
He talked about how statistically insane Ben and Joel were, when surrounded by good shooters. Hence the trade for Curry and Green and the return to the model of 2017-2018.
Thinks the mechanics of Maxey are good enough to become a better 3-point shooter than he showed in college
Thinks he sees a role for Paul Reed on this team, now there's no clear back-up for Joel
He litteraly said: 'free agency is where the bad deals happen'. Reminds me of last summer :-?

Are you hearing anything about significant trades? Was draft night just starting fase of the "plan", or this is it for now?

Richardson deal was a surprise to me as I hadn’t heard about Dallas. Found out today that Chicago wouldn’t budge on asking for the moon for Lavine so they pivoted to Dallas for Curry.

They are not done but I would expect smaller moves with some FA signing to bolster depth.

As a fan, I love everything that Morey did yesterday. I think Curry is a tremendous fit and a huge benefactor of yesterday is Tobias. He can now play the 4 and be that third option with space to operate.

TTP wrote:The starting lineup right now is looking very similar to our 17-18 squad

Simmons/Curry/Green/Harris/Embiid with Matisse/Shake/Furkan/FA big making up the bulk of the rotation.

Maxey/Joe/Reed/Shayok/Zhaire? as development prospects. Ferguson (if he makes the team) and Scott (if we don't move him) as bench depth, plus we'll likely see a few other moves between FA/trade/UDFA.

That's a pretty exciting unit compared to where we were even 24 hours ago and we improved our long-term cap situation as well.

That’s a good thing. We should have let the team grow organically from there instead of shooting ourselves in the foot over and over and over since then.

Seth is not a great defensive player, but with our bigger PG set right now of Simmons and Shake, he would be assigned to guard the other team's PG more often than JJ ever could be and is at least able to represent on defense. He could be targeted on switches, hence why Embiid, Reed and someone like Noel make sense as rim protectors and the final line of defense this year. Quick, long and agile shot blockers to cover up for what we give up on D with guys like Curry and Shake.

I still see a need for a beefy combo forward defender off the bench, an energy guy or better if we can find them, although switching Ben on to those kinds of players is always one of our options and one of the reasons he is far more valuable than people give Simmons credit for.

We need a back-up for Joel.

Baynes is on top of my list

The other thing they did with the moves yesterday is extract more value out of the Tobias anchor. I think its possible we can get close to Clipper Tobias next year with this roster and maybe actually be able to move him next offseason.

So after 3 years the Sixers swapped Redick/Covington/Saric for Curry/Green/Harris. Morey did the best he could with what he had, but man, this just shows how much damage bad GMs can inflict in such a short period of time.

Harris is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over Dario. Can’t be mad about that part

Yeah we can when he makes $35M/yr while Dario made $2.3M last year and won't get anything outrageous as an extension.

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Morey mentioned the 2nd trade (Curry) was not possible without the 1st trade (Horford). That tells me that they are probably going to use the TPE created from the Horford deal to absorb Curry’s salary, hence leaving them with a 10.8M TPE from Josh Richardson.

Dario @ anything under 10M >>> Tobias @ 35M

Also I have the depth chart currently as:

Simmons/Curry
Green/Milton/Maxey/Joe/Smith
Thybulle/Korkmaz/Ferguson
Harris/Scott
Embiid/Pelle

Milton is not a back up PG. And I will be very surprised if they don’t go back to Ben as the starting PG. But we’ll see how it goes.

I say Curry starts over Thybulle. Jo and Ben are desperate for spacing, and so is Morey. Thybulle continues as the defensive stopper off the bench. Maybe he takes over the starting role 1 year later when Green's contract is up.
