I like this pick quite a bit. Reminds me of our other gambles in the 2nd round like Niko & Omer.

Good news?
International bigman taken in the 2nd Round typically contribute in the NBA and are at least useful role players.
Bad news?
They typically don't last long and retire before age 30.

Seems like Kornet because he's Caucasian? Oh boy.Peelboy wrote:Meh. Given the Bulls current state, I would have preferred to get a high-potential developmental guy to stash in the G-League. Someone like a Bol Bol. This guy seems like a Kornet at best, and I have my doubts about whether he ever even comes over. Might as well have sold the pick or traded for a future pick.....
Saving grace: FA pickup of Devon Dotson. In my mind, I'm flipping them to draft Dotson #44 and pick up Simonovic in FA. That feels a lot better.

It's because they are really 40 not 30

Definitely wanted Riller or Mays here, but the Dotson pickup makes up for that.
I know nothing about Simonovic. Thanks for sharing all the scouting vids, guys.

Soon as I saw his tape I said "Luke Kornet replacement."

To me he looks more offensively versatile than kornet. He also seems to be a much better rebounder.

I don't think that's all that concerning given who was on the board. Fair chance that no one drafted after is any good ever either. If he ends up being good enough to make an NBA roster at real money, he'll probably come for that real money eventually.

Watching the video, someone needs to teach him not to bring the ball down while gathering for his shot, would probably cut his release speed by about 40%.

Saw that too. I like his speed and coordination for his size. Nice low risk/high reward pick.

It's tricky to learn not to bring the ball down, its very natural because you gather more momentum from doing so and get more strength into your shot, but its the first big change you typically make to go from a slow release to fast release player. Patrick Williams does the same thing.

Don't know if he'll ever come over but...his feet are not too bad, can move fairly decent for 6'11.
But the shot starts at his waistline and takes a few months to come up and release. Hopefully we get to see him at some point.

Without looking anything up Jokic and Marc Gasol were both second round picks when drafted.I’m sure there’s more too so what your saying is false.

Yea out of all of those picks, only Chris Duhon was a good enough role player. The jury is still out on Gafford.

Granted, the Bulls didn't benefit from it, but Hassell and Mason both had nice lengthy careers as role players.

I mean every draft there are a ton of solid 2nd Rd picks. Gar/Pax just didn't know what they were doing in the 2nd Rd. They often targeted prospects in the 2nd Rd by "need" not by talent. AK picking an international bigman is quite smart. Those usually net you the highest success rate of finding a quality role player at the next level.
Also you're missing Omer Asik from that list.
