His value of his defense is more on eyetest than on numbers given his low stls and blk rate. Offensively, he has poor shooting % and has low assists numbers.

For me drafting him is more of looking past his numbers, except for his FT%.

But that eye test doesn't give us anything either because he was glued to catch and shoot players that couldn't dribble while Ashton Hagans defended any opposing player with a creation pulse.

Its easy now to hide the defense now with the increase usage of the zone defense. Heat has shown that by making it to the finals with Herro and Duncan Robinson.

And you also have Ben and Biid so you wouldnt rely a lot from them. Just as how we treat JJ back then or Kork last season.

Overall, i dont think he can’t be a good defensive player because of his lack of length but he can be an average defensive guy.

Maxey looks like a good defensive player because of effort but I don't think he is one. Kind of like McConnell.

Maxey is more like Lou Will than Mitchell IMO.

Yeah its true. OKC initially traded it to us w/Illy for Grant. Then your boy BCB traded it to Orlando for Picnic Baskets. Then we got it back for Fultz.

Hopefully Maxey can become what Fultz was supposed to be.

Body of Mitchell, style of Lou Will.

He’s like Lou Will or TJ Warren where they are natural to score 20-30pts without any eye popping highlights, unlike Mitchell.

I think an interesting game to watch is probably the Florida game, last game of the season for the Cats. Hagans was semi-suspended for that game, so it was Maxey at point. He had an absolutely dreadful night scoring (1-11 FG%) but played the most minutes (39) and had 7 assist to 1 turnover in a win on the road at Gainesville. You can probably get an idea of how he plays when the shot isn't dropping.

I think to add to that, he finished out the last 13 games of the season averaging 36 minutes per game which is very impressive. Seems to be in the mold of Thybulle and Ben in that he doesn't really get tired. He also got his spg up to 1.1 in that stretch. I do usually like to see how Fr end out the year in the last 15-20 games because they are finally comfortable. It feels like he regressed a bit offensively, but he did seem to play better defense.

Who is this guy? Maxey does not have a scary first step. He’s not an explosive athlete or a speed demon. Yes he is crafty and knows how to use a screen, but he’s not going to blowing by defenders in the nba, cause he didn’t do that in college. And his handle is average again not tight right or super elite, it’s by no means a negative but this guy is making it sound like he has Nash or kyrie ball handling.

I like the pick but he’s going to need to adjust to the pro game but it’s encouraging sounds like he’s a hard worker/gym rat. And most importantly he’s going to need to work on his shot.
